2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION AND ADVANTAGES 9025 provides solutions for flame retardancy when soak and wash durable FR coating and backcoating formulations are required has the following properties: Effective flame suppression in a variety of fabrics Supplied as aqueous concentrate with up to 65% solids Low melt active component (240 F, 115 C) Opportunity for lower latex levels or zero latex formulations Minimal amount of additional nonionic dispersing agents and stabilizers required Good transparency Easy incorporation in common binder systems Compatibility with most textile finishing chemicals Good ph stability Ability to achieve soak/laundry durable FR fabrics Alternative system to Deca or HBCD based formulations Sustainability and Durability 9025 has an optimal melting range enabling better penetration of the finish into the fabric during the curing process resulting in excellent durability. The FR cannot be extracted from the fabric, even at the boil. It also minimizes the whitening effect often observed with traditional FR systems. Flexibility These unique properties make 9025 the ideal integrated brominated FR solution for those seeking an alternative to current textile fabric finishing systems based on Deca and/or HBCD. This homogenous product enables long shelf life and easy product management. Additionally, the flexibility of 9025 opens new opportunities for uncomplicated water based FR treatment of cellulose blends and synthetics. 2

3 9025 is easily diluted in water yet has outstanding performance as a wash durable finish after curing. Once incorporated in the aqueous binder system, it is easy to handle and can be adjusted for different foaming, hydrophobic/ hydrophilic, adhesion, viscosity properties, etc may be applied by a variety of application techniques including spray, pad, print, coat, foam and brush. It is most suitable for polyester, acrylic blends, nylon, polypropylene blends and cotton/polyester blend fabrics is highly compatible with most common textile formulation additives such as: cross-linkers, softeners, antimony oxide, UV inhibitors, antimicrobials, pigment dispersions, etc. 3

4 PROPERTIES % solids aqueous concentrate is a milky dispersion that contains 43% bromine. It is suitable for durable textile coating applications, especially to pass stringent standards such as BS-5852, NFPA-701 and 16 CFR concentrate should be handled in a similar manner to customary BFRs. 5 FORMULATION PROCEDURE Dispersions may be prepared by the following general procedure: 1. Calculate the amount of water needed, in addition to the water already present in the 9025 dispersion as supplied, to achieve the desired final dilution (solids content) in the coating formulation concentrate is pre-stirred and added to water with a dispersing agent. If desired, ATO is then added slowly with stirring. The resulting mixture is stirred with a mixer (500 rpm) for 15 minutes followed by addition of the binder emulsion. 3. Slow addition of the rest of the water, making ph corrections and adjustments according to requirements 4. Addition of other additives (such as pigments, softeners, repellents, etc.) 5. Viscosity of the formulation is adjusted depending on the application requirements for the target fabric. 7 HEALTH SAFETY - ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS Brominated FR s (BFR s) in general and ICL Industrial Products FR product line in particular, make a positive contribution to the environment by avoiding fires and their uncontrolled emissions of toxic gases and effluents. When BFR s are associated with high performance recycling operations, their end of life fate can be managed and controlled as shown in many concrete cases. Results of an analyses performed by Institut Fresenius Chemische und Biologische Laboratorien GmbH on all the FR s mentioned above for the presence of polybrominated dibenzo-para-dioxins/dibenzofurans (PBDD/PBDF) have shown them to be in full compliance with the strictest requirements of the global criteria of the German Dioxin Ordinance and EPA TSCA Final Rule requirements 1. As part of an ongoing Product Stewardship Program and Customer oriented policy, ICL Industrial Products is committed to implement further toxicological and environmental tests as needed. As a proactive action to avoid contamination of effluent by chemicals used in the coating process, ICL Industrial Products has carried out work together with the Brominated Science and Environmental Forum (BSEF) and European Brominated Flame Retardant Industry Panel (EBFRIP).
