A public tender in 2013 t replace 2.1 millin f incandescent lamps in the residential sectr (Reference: Bahrain and WB agree Energy Efficiency Prgramprviding technical supprt and advisry services t address the challenge f curbing energy demand in the cuntry ver the next 3 years. The labeling requirements under this prgram will becme mandatry by 2013 and it will be extended in 2013 t include ductedd air-cnditiners i and chillers. UAE EE Regulatin-ensuring that all nn-ducted air cnditiners (rm aircnditiners) may be placed n the market r put int service nly if it des nt endanger the safety f persns r dmestic animals when prperly p installed. 11 On-ging EE prgrammes in GCC cuntries SAUDI ARABIA: Natinal energy Efficiency Prgram (NEEP)- UN/DESA (Divisin fr Sustainable Develpment) is executing agency. The aim f this prgramme is t assist the energy sectr in Saudi Arabia t meet the rapidly grwing pwer and energy demand thrugh efficient and ratinal cnsumptin patterns. NEEP invlves supprting energy auditing in the industrial and cmmercial sectrs, utility lad management, setting plicies and regulatins fr residential buildings and energycnsuming and private sectr investments and utilizatin f efficient technlgies. It will enhance and encurage utreach and awareness building initiatives n EE thrugh campaigns, wrkshps and capacity building. Saudi Arabia will have implemented a natinal prgram t imprve EE bth in prductin and in end-use. 13 Energy Efficiency On-ging Prgram in GCC KUWAIT (1): Building Energy Cde f Practice in Kuwait- Basic energy cnservatin requirements: limitsi A/C peak pwer (Watt) per unit area(m2) fr airand water-cled A/C systems as well as lighting fr: Residential buildings and Cmmercial buildings (including ffice, shps, msques, schls... etc.). The 1983 cde was develped by MEW, MPW and KISR: Applicable t all new and retrfitted buildings f all types. The cde cvers electrical installatins: Regulatins including their peratins energy and cnservatin measures in buildings. (Reference: Aims t 1) Imprve the energy efficiency f Kuwait s pwer statins by 5%, 2) Reduce energy cnsumptin by 10% in existing buildings and industries, 3) Reduce energy cnsumptin by 30% in new buildings frm the current level. 15 On-ging EE prgrammes in GCC cuntries QATAR (1): Standard fr air cnditiner s EE set by Kahramaa (Electricity & Water Crpratin) thrugh Cnservatin & EE Department. The new standards are apprved by Wrld Trade Organizatin (WTO) under QS SASO 2663/2013, will beeffective sn. The minimum i EE star rating fr air cnditiners in Qatar is three, which is equal t an EE Rati (EER) f 8.5. Once the EE labeling is activated, nn-cmpliant appliances will nt be allwed t enter the Qatari market. The rule will be enfrced in c-rdinatin with cncerned authrities wh will issue pre-apprval fr shipping such items int the cuntry. (Reference: Chevrn Launches EE Center at QSTP- t imprve EE and develp regin-specific slar technlgies-the center was inaugurated under the auspices f HE Dr. Mhammed Bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister f Energy & Industry, at a ceremny at the science park, accmpanied by Jhn Gass, Chevrn s President f Glbal Gas, and Dr. Tidu Maini, QSTP s Executive Chairman. Als present were Saad Al Kaabi, Directr f Oil & Gas Ventures at Qatar Petrleum, and Carl Atallah, President f Chevrn Qatar. The Chevrn CSEE was established t supprt Qatar s strategy t fr sustainable develpment. It hasavisitr it center with training i and demnstratin f EE lighting and phtvltaic technlgies. Later in the year the Chevrn CSEE expects t link with a slar research facility at QSTP studying slar pwer and slar air cnditining. Thrugh its subsidiary Chevrn Qatar Energy Technlgy Ltd, Chevrn is investing $20 millin in its QSTP activities ver five years. (Reference:

16 Energy Efficiency On-ging Prgram in GCC QATAR (2): EE Prgramme in the Qatari Electricity Sectr In Feb 2006, ESCWA and Qatar General Electricity & Water Crpratin (KAHRAMAA/KM) signed an agreement aimed at develping a cperatin prgramme n EE in the Qatari electricity sectr. The prgramme span was 20 mnths, implemented in full crdinatin between ESCWA & KAHRAMAA and included the fllwing key activities: Evaluatin f the current and future supply and demand f the electricity sectr in Qatar -Assessing the lad prfiles and analyzing the electrical energy cnsumptin patterns by sectr - Perfrming preliminary energy surveys/audits at selected sites - Identifying pssible EE Measures (technlgies and practices) and cnducting preliminary evaluatins fr their ptential applicatins in Qatar - Prviding guidelines and recmmendatins fr an adequate and apprpriate tariff structure and pricing fr the electrical energy supply in the varius sectrs - Identifying i the requirements t develp an EE prgram at natinal levell and related preliminary actin plan - Organizing a Seminar n the utcmes f the cperatin prgramme The agreement is suppsed t be implemented ver and is expected t prvide several benefits, amng these: 1) Reducing the peak lad by 550 MW, which h culd save $325M required fr installing pwer plants in additin t $92 M needed fr transfer and distributin electricity netwrks, 2) Reducing electricity cnsumptin by 2.3 TWh annually abut 19% f ttal cnsumptin, which wuld in turn save $574M annually in fuel cnsumptin, 3) Reducing CO2 emissin by 1.3 Mt/y and nitrgen xides by 5400 tns/yr 4) Creating a new jbs related EE activities. In respnding t the requirements f the EE prgramme, KM established a department fr Energy Cnservatin & Efficiency and prpsed a natinal actin plan fr energy cnservatin In this regard KM set detailed implementatin plans fr several EE prjects
