Organisation profile Imperial College Health Partners (ICHP) was launched in June It aims to improve the health and care of the 1.9 million people living in North West London. The partnership brings together for the first time all NHS healthcare providers and Commissioning Care Groups in North West London, including acute and specialist hospitals, mental health, community and primary care services, in partnership with Imperial College London. We are also the designated Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) for the same area. We re here to deliver demonstrable improvements in health and wealth for the people of North West London and beyond through collaboration and innovation. We re focused on: enabling research and identification of best practice across the sector ensuring best practice is adopted and diffused working with industry to improve the adoption of innovation in products and services In addition to our members we work closely with local government and social care, technology and pharmaceutical industries, opinion leaders, research bodies and of course patients and the public who as the ultimate beneficiaries of our work drive everything we do. 1
2 Job Summary As the programme lead for patient safety, you will be responsible for driving change and improvement across the North West London health and care system.. You will take responsibility for ensuring that, working with clinicians and executives from our partners and/or industry, we set and achieve clear objectives in terms of improvements in patient safety, with particular reference to the recommendations to the NHS set out in the 2013 report of the National Safety Advisory Group, led by Don Berwick, A promise to learn a commitment to act. The programme will include the adoption/diffusion of innovation and best practice. This will require an individual of exceptional drive and self-motivation. You will need the intellect to deal with complex system and organisational complexities and the personal credibility to relate constructively with people who are relevant to the projects at all levels in stakeholder organisations. The Patient Safety programme incorporates the Collaboration for Patient Safety in North West London one of 15 such collaborations which form the national response to the Don Berwick report. As such, you will liaise with the patient safety programme leads across the country. The programme has a Senior Responsible Officer who is the chief executive from one of the partner organisations. You will work closely with this individual, and with executive and clinical leads in all our partner organisations, in the delivery of the relevant projects. The programme will comprise a number of individual projects The projects already in hand include the creation of a developmental observatory of best practice for senior executive and clinical leaders, implementation of researchbased best practice in prescribing from Imperial College s research centre, and the establishment of a regional network of patient safety champions to work with the collaborations programmes and to provide the patient perspective to their local organisations. As part of the ICHP team, you will also contribute to the the general business and development agenda of ICHP. This will include identifying and bidding for income generation projects, gleaning and contributing market intelligence, and taking part in strategic and business planning. The aim of this role is to apply creativity and intellectual rigour with exceptional problem solving and relationship skills to drive and deliver projects which support the delivery of the organisation s strategic goals. Key Responsibilities 2
3 Lead and deliver agreed objectives for patient safety improvement initiatives. Map service/care pathways, identify gaps in current provision, identify priority areas for change and improvement. Source, collate, and analyse relevant information in support of the programme. Motivate and gain commitment of senior stakeholders to lead the change in culture and behaviours towards achieving programme objectives. Communicate the safety initiatives in a compelling, inspiring and interesting way using case study examples. Facilitate and support the selection and development of new projects, using sophisticated but transparent project management tools and techniques. Facilitate the development of business cases and funding bids for projects and associated workstreams. Apply robust project management including systematic reporting against milestones, reporting and mitigation of risks, identification of resource requirements, Work with the Engagement Manager and patient safety champions to ensure that the patient s voice and needs are at the heart of ICHP projects by using various mechanisms for engaging user involvement. Deputise for the Director of Programmes, Change and Performance Management as appropriate. Any other duties which are deemed appropriate to role as requested by the Director of Programmes, Change and Performance Management. Financial and Physical Resources The programme has an allocated budget which will be managed by the postholder. Spending authorities will be according to the Company s policies. Financial reports will be included in project reports. Appropriate support will be given to the projects from other parts of the organisation, including project support administration and communications and engagement. Responsible for supporting the commissioning of projects and procurement of services to support project delivery. 3

Background in Management Consultancy or NHS improvement organisations Evidence of handling complex data structures across a broad spectrum of sources ideally in a NHS context. A record of significant achievement in leading and managing the delivery of complex projects. Experience of working with teams that span organisational boundaries and the development of joint projects. Aware of current issues and challenges facing healthcare delivery.
