1 Job description August 2016 Student Engagement Co-ordinator Context INTO is an organisation created by leading British Universities investing in the development of world class international student centres. It specialises in preparing students for undergraduate and postgraduate study in the UK. Our Centres deliver guaranteed progression onto leading British undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Each INTO Centre is managed by a joint venture management board in which INTO and the partner University are equal shareholders. Reporting line The Student Engagement Co-ordinator reports to the Head of Student Services and Systems Job dimensions To support the Centre s integration strategy by ensuring student engagement with the wider University and local community, in order to provide a positive student experience. Key accountabilities and duties Communicate policies, and information about events, activities, societies, and electoral campaigns, in order that students are aware of their opportunities for engagement with the Guild and the wider University, Working closely with the University Student Guild Develop an effective communication strategy, ensuring that appropriate mechanisms are used, in particular using social networking effectively and employing student friendly communication methods. Monitor trends and social activity, and the impact of different channels of communication adjusting your strategy as required.
2 To develop systems and initiatives aimed at encouraging and improving student engagement. Create links and work closely with Exeter University and the wider local community with an aim of identifying opportunities for student integration and experience (e.g. different cultures e.g. voluntary work, charity events, sports activity and societies; provide appropriate support to students to access these activities. Develop two-way channel of communication and ensure student feedback is sought including the promotion of the INTO exit survey; ensure that feedback is acted upon in relation to providing opportunities for student engagement. Promote, co-ordinate and provide administration for meetings and networks to ensure opportunities for student feedback and engagement are fully exploited e.g. Student Services Forum, INTO Giving Committee, Social Events Working Group. Co-ordination and lead responsibility for fund-raising events for INTO Giving. Assist the Student Guild in the co-ordination of training of student/class representatives, and continue to support and co-ordinate SSLC representatives and chairs in their duties. Design, develop and maintain administrative processes and systems to monitor and report on social events and other engagement activities and levels of participation. Maintain awareness of INTO and University engagement strategies and new developments to ensure that INTO aligns to these objectives. Implement strategies to engage and involve more students in the work of the Centre and specific initiatives. Development of, planning of, management of and delivering of an engaging programme of events for the academic year, which will provide INTO students with a social programme that allows opportunities for integration with each other, the wider University and the local community. Organise, promote and be responsible for individual out of hours social events, ensuring student safety and welfare. Management of Employee Engagement Budget, planning and allocation and reporting on expenditure to the Finance team. This also entails arranging the secure collection of payments from students. Planning and development of individual social programmes for Japanese groups whilst remaining within an agreed weekly budget. Conduct risk assessment for social events, with particular consideration and support for students under 18 years of age. Create and maintain database of Student Helpers, and support the recruitment process, induction and training. Page 2 of 5
3 Train and co-ordinate duties of Summer Support Team (2 to 3 staff). Assist at interviews for Global Chums, promote the Scheme to INTO students and support University s Global Chums intern. Contribute to induction and orientation sessions for new INTO students. Provide welcome talks. Operate meet and greet service where applicable, with particular responsibility for groups during the summer. Develop a resource centre of advisory and informative media and compile information packs. Update the INTO Student Handbook. Assist with the arrival and registration of students as required and where necessary support the Student Services Team with administrative tasks as and when required. This role meets the requirements in respect of exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act All applicants who are offered employment will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Serviced check before the appointment is confirmed. Degree at Undergraduate level Academic Educated to A-Level standard (or Qualifications equivalent) Excellent standard of written and spoken English. Experience of similar work with students and delivering a good customer service. An interest in other nationalities and cultures. Understanding of international student needs.
