1 Job Description Job title: Department/School: Student Social and Recreational Sport Coordinator Students Union Grade: 5 Location: University of Bath premises and City of Bath Job purpose ou will work to enhance the student experience through sport, providing a platform for all to participate, develop and thrive The role will build on a successful 6 year project funded by Sport England to increase participation towards physical activity within higher education. The post holder will develop a strategic and sustainable social and recreational sport offer towards the student community. With a University community built up of undergraduates and postgraduates you will structure an offer that will benefit all student groups throughout the calendar year. ou will identify successful postgraduate deliveries and build on them to support the growing number of postgraduates accessing the offer. With evidence supporting the benefits of activities towards general health and wellbeing along with academic studies the role will work with student support services across the university. It will identify opportunities and developments that will impact the student s experience whilst at university and ingrain a health and wellbeing attitude and lifestyle that Bath graduates will continue with. The role will create an offer that provides activities at all levels and meets students expectations. Input from the student body will be required to ensure developments from one year to the next are current and engaging. ou will work alongside student committee members and implement a recreational offer within the sport club structure. ou will identify resources needed to sustain the offer and produce business plans to support this. ou will work with departments across the university identifying opportunities to work together to deliver social and recreational offer for all students. Events will play a key part in engaging the student community, you will deliver regular events that not only encourages student participation but increase student spectators and the development of Pride in Sport at Bath Source and nature of management provided Activities Manager Staff management responsibility
2 NA Special conditions Evening and some weekend work maybe required throughout various times of the year to ensure deadlines are met and events are supported. ou may also be required to attend overnight conferences relevant to your role. Main duties and responsibilities Plan and deliver social and recreational activities that ignites interest from the student population and delivers their expectations. Create a recreational sport offer within the 48 sports clubs and identify growth opportunities and resources necessary. Actively engage and recruit volunteers to support the delivery of student sport. Identify student communities that are underrepresented (postgraduate and international students) and increase opportunities. Oversee on and off campus facility bookings and contracts whilst identifying new facility projects that will support the growth of student activities in the future. Allocate funding from the student experience fund appropriately and generate income streams. Manage budgets and provide forecasting for financial updates. Work with support services within the Students Union and University to identify activities to support health and wellness. Deliver key activities and opportunities in line with national events (Mental Health Awareness Week) and high pressured periods in the academic calendar. Monitor and track student engagement within social and recreational activities and use data to map out next steps. Deliver a competitive recreational competition between institutions. Identify clubs that can deliver a recreational team and coordinate their fixtures, transport and entry process. Integrate inter-mural and departmental activities into SU Sport providing support for students and continuity. Support inter-hall activities, provide sport specific knowledge to grow inter-hall events. Identify coaching, instructors and officials needed to maintain a high standard of recreational activities along with safety regulations. Oversee casual coaches set up and monitor payment and authorisation. Highlight development needs of student coaches and set objectives that support the student clubs. Create health and safety documents that ensures activities are risk assessed and meets health and safety guidelines/regulations. Develop and maintain an engagement tool that provides clear and accurate information on activities available for students. Support initiatives from students and work to implement them, specifically towards club run events. Work with the Volunteer area and identify volunteering and community schemes. Monitor developments in local, regional and national sports organisations; maintain a network with other universities. General Support BUCS administration tasks when required Support the delivery of area publications and marketing material. Provide social media content and inform the wider community of area and student successes. Support and co-ordinate large events within the activities area. Support the 48 sports clubs members in the day to day running of their club and events.
3 Provide information that will affect annual planning and calendar within the Students Union. Provide general administration support to the area when required. Support the Sports Officer and Activities Manager actions and project work as and when required. Support areas annual objectives and strategic aims within 3 year plan. Attend relevant events and conferences that support area of work. Person Specification Criteria: Qualifications and Training Essential Desirable Qualifications Educated to A level/nvq Level 4 with GCSE English Language and Maths at Grade C or equivalent qualifications Event Management Criteria: Knowledge and Experience Essential Desirable Experience of student sport within higher education or local authority Experience of establishing and maintaining relations with key stakeholders Experience of coordinating and delivering a competition structure within sport. Experience of financial and/or budgetary control Experience of handling projects and working within deadlines. Experience in Health & Safety, including writing Risk Assessments in a sporting context. Knowledge of Students Unions Experience of working with and training volunteers Experience of working with Microsoft Programmes. Experience of working with websites. Ability to provide succinct reports and briefings on proposed projects Ability to communicate well with people with different perspectives and knowledge both verbally and in writing.
