3 ROLE SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND You will work under the direction of the Membership Manager, to support the co-ordination of Volunteering Groups, Societies and Demon Media within Membership Services and undertake governance and administrative responsibilities that support the development of DMU sports clubs. You must have experience of working in the voluntary / community sector, commitment to the personal and social development of others and have worked within an administrative position. Knowledge of the charitable sector and/or Students Unions would be advantageous alongside experience of supporting enterprise opportunities. 4 JOB SPECIFICATION Job title: Department: Student Activities Coordinator Membership Services Salary : 18,940-22,494 Grade C, point 12 Hours of work: Responsible to: Supervision: Purpose of post: 37 hours per week Membership Manager None Under the direction of the Membership Manager, to create, develop and deliver opportunities for student groups and students to enhance their experiences, and employability on and off campus. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To lead, with support from the Membership Manager, on maintaining existing membership engagement and review and develop mechanisms to encourage new engagement within student groups. To lead, with support from the Membership Manager, on developing ways to maximise the opportunities available to student groups and their committees. To lead the department s work in the training and development of student group committees including Activities Conferences, workshop sessions and the development of online training resources and materials. To ensure student groups adhere to legal and constitutional requirements for the appropriate running of their group and to report back any issues to the Membership Manager. To review student group start-up processes and provide support for those wishing to set up a new student group activity. To lead on the coordination of student volunteering groups, with support from the Membership Manager. To support with the development of DMU sports clubs alongside the Membership Manager, Activities Administrator and DMU Sport Department. To support and encourage students to accredit their volunteering experience through appropriate accreditation schemes.
5 To keep accurate records of student participation and maintain an up to date database, using appropriate in-house systems. To be responsible for collating, reporting and evaluating participation statistics, to conduct feedback surveys, focus groups and other evaluation methods and complete appropriate reports as directed by the Membership Manager. To review and develop financial processes and procedures, including the development fund, for student group activity, with the support of the Membership Manager, as well as providing support with the administering of budget allocations and society self-funding accounts. To review and develop student group elections to maximise engagement in consultation with Student Voice and with support from the Membership Manager. To review and develop online forms and procedures relating to the effective administration of student groups. To advise and support students on appropriate and suitable funding and sponsorship opportunities available to them. To take a leading role in reviewing and overseeing systems for health and safety, including activity specific risk assessments and appropriate audit checks. To support students involved in the Activities Panel and any other relevant committees to run smoothly and effectively. To support the organisation of key events during the year including FreshFest, annual celebration events and other Membership Services collaborative events as directed by the Membership Manager. To lead the organisation of the annual Societies Varsity with the University of Leicester Students Union, with support from the Membership Manager. To lead the departments work in researching and engaging with groups that have been traditionally seen as hard to reach such as mature, postgraduate, carers, parents and commuter students. To collaboratively work with all functions within the Membership Services department. Act as a DBS counter signatory for the Students Union. To cover the duties of the Activities functions in the absence of other personnel. Any other associated or similar duties that may be necessary from time to time as determined by the Membership Manager.
