Root, Sarah and Vergara, Hector A., A Mathematical Model for Driver Balance in Truckload Relay Networks, 12th International Material Handling Research Colloquium, Gardanne, France, RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Graduate Research Assistant, Department of Industrial Engineering University of Arkansas (Fayetteville, AR) August 2009 August 2012 Dissertation research: Developed an exact algorithm for the enumeration of paths in directed acyclic graphs when side constraints on number of nodes visited and length of the paths are enforced simultaneously. Developed a mathematical model for Truckload Relay Network Design (TLRND) using a composite variable formulation that allows explicitly considering difficult operational constraints that have been relaxed in previous research. Studied a generalization to TLRND where a decision is made with respect to which dispatching method should be used for every truckload between traditional Point-to-Point and relay network dispatching. Completed computational implementation and testing of algorithms and optimization models. Center for Excellence in Logistics and Distribution (CELDi): Developed a decision support tool for volume feasibility and cost feasibility analyses of an alternative coal rail transportation network with shipper collaboration. Developed a simulation model for the analysis of operational issues related to the distribution of coal under a collaborative environment for shippers. o Project funded by the Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation. Graduate Research Assistant, Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Oregon State University (Corvallis, Oregon) September 2002 June 2006 Thesis research: Developed heuristics for efficient buffer allocation in serial production lines. Completed computational implementation and testing of heuristics and genetic algorithm for the buffer allocation problem. Graduate Research Assistant: Involved in the development of a technological concept for a new revenue collection system for road use in Oregon. Designed, planned and executed hardware and software acceptance tests. Created and maintained software applications and database for pilot test of the new system. o Project funded by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). 3
4 Conducted research on PDA accessibility. Developed and administered surveys to assess PDA usefulness in undergraduate engineering education. Completed statistical analysis of data collected through the surveys. o Project funded by the Northwest Academic Computing Consortium (NWACC).
