An implementation support and supervision mission was conducted in Benin from June 13 to 19, 2013. The mission noted that all activities contributing to the achievement of the project development objective are being implemented in a satisfactory manner. This includes: (i) regular parks surveillance activities in a participatory manner with the village associations (AVIGREF); and (iii) development and implementation of income generating activities for communities adjacent to both the Pendjari and W parks, in order to reduce human pressure on the parks. The ecological monitoring has recently detected the presence of rare species such as the cheetahs which had not been seen in the parks for the past 10 years. This translates a biological comeback in the parks. Furthermore, disbursement is performing above the planned levels (see disbursement graph on page 6 of this ISR). Based on the foregoing, the mission is of the opinion that overall progress towards implementation, as well as progress towards PDO and GEO achievement remain satisfactory.
