The disbursement s rate is at 62% ( SDR 1,740, out of a total amount of SDR2,800,000) and significant progress has been made with regards to the implementation of the activities of components 1 (land transport) and 2 (maritime transport) that were lagging behind. For example, for Page 1 of 5

2 component 1: (a) the preliminary draft of the road safety curricula has been completed; (b) the draft final report for the Road safety strategy has been prepared and is currently under review before formal approval; and (c) the action plan for the road safety awareness campaign has been approved. Regarding component 2, the Government has scheduled a workshop for mid-february 2012 to review and comment on the draft report for the merchant maritime code, before further processing and approval by the Government. As far as component 3 (air transport) is concerned, the draft report for the detailed engineering study for Nouakchott international airport (existing) development plan is available. The project has also developed a comprehensive sector wide tool to monitor the sectors performance. Consequently, the overall implementation progress of the project is considered as satisfactory. 5 Key Decisions Regarding Implementation Project implementation status remains satisfactory and the project is still on track towards achieving the Development objectives. The activity that is still lagging behind is the finalization of the merchant maritime code and the launch of the process for its adoption.
