2 Church Overview The Saint Theresa Parish was originally created on October 4, 1934 by Bishop Maurice F. McAuliffe of Hartford. Aware of the spiritual needs of the people of Trumbull, the Bishop made Saint Theresa s the first Catholic Church in Trumbull, and dedicated it in honor of Saint Theresa, the Little Flower of Jesus. Bishop McAuliffe dedicated the original small white frame church on September 22, 1935 so that Saint Theresa s functioned as a true parish. The original church was a classic New England colonial design that could seat some four hundred people, and the neighboring McLevy homestead became the parish rectory. In 1960, Bishop Lawrence J. Shehan gave permission to construct the present cathedral-like granite and limestone church building, which was dedicated by Bishop Walter W. Curtis on April 1, Today, Saint Theresa is considered the Mother Church of Trumbull and is currently blessed with over 3,000 parishioner families representing over 15,000 worshippers. More information about St. Theresa can be found online at: Event Overview The inception of this fund raising event marks the celebration of our 50 th anniversary in this glorious church building. Along with these memorable 50 years comes with it much-needed building repair and upkeep. Repairs and maintenance on the infrastructure of a building of this magnitude and history are financially staggering but mandatory. This gala fund raising event benefits the entire church parishioner base and surrounding business community. The dedicated event committee has developed a fun and appropriate way to secure the extraordinary building maintenance funding necessary this year. The event committee has designed an elegant fundraising dinner featuring: business & sports honorees, auctions and fellowship. It will be a night of fun, nostalgia, dancing, thanksgiving, and looking forward - as St. Theresa s carries the message of Jesus Christ to new generations. Times are challenging and what better way to celebrate our faith s greatness and positive messages while securing the foundational future of St. Theresa church for our children!
