2017 HYBRID CANOLA LINEUP
CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE Prior to 1997, canola growers had very limited options for weed control. Then along came the first wave of herbicide-tolerant canola the LibertyLink system. hybrid canola has come a long way over the past 20 years and you, the grower, have been there every step of the way. Thank you. Your trust and faith in hybrid canola has made us the number one canola brand in Canada. In addition to the attributes you have come to expect from hybrids; such as early-season vigour, high stress tolerance and exceptional yield performance; your support has allowed Bayer to continually bring new hybrid innovations to the market. These innovations include clubroot resistance*, healthier oil profiles and pod shatter reduction technology. We look forward to helping you meet the challenges of tomorrow. * To predominant clubroot pathotypes identified in Canada at time of registration. 2
THE EVOLUTION KEEPS GETTING BETTER Evolution hybrids represent the latest advancements in hybrid canola innovation and solutions. Each of these new hybrids offer the latest in genetic development for your canola that you can trust to deliver consistent yields and increased performance. New 2017 Evolution hybrids include: Pod Shatter Reduction Hybrid: NEW early-maturing joins in offering increased yield protection and greater harvest flexibility with patented pod shatter reduction technology. As a result of this innovative trait, growers can now straight cut their canola without sacrificing yield. A new strong-performing hybrid, best suited to those who prefer an earlymaturing hybrid. 3
20 YEARS OF PROOF For 20 consecutive years, canola hybrids have continued to outperform all competitors at the Western Canada Canola/Rapeseed Recommending Committee (WCC/RRC) canola variety registration trials. performance sets Bayer apart from the competition Bayer Limagrain Agriprogress Inc. 6 WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE AN INVIGOR HYBRID? The numbers behind each hybrid tell the real story. Although thousands of hybrids are screened and tested every year, only a select few actually become an hybrid. This is a testament to the rigorous quality control and high performance standards of the canola team. Here is a stroll down memory lane, highlighting growers favourite hybrids over the past 20 years
A FIT FOR EVERY FARM hybrids can address the specific growing challenges of any field across a broad spectrum of growing conditions. The offering is designed to provide you with more options to mitigate the environmental challenges that Western Canadian growers face. MATURITY 3½ DAYS EARLY 0 DAYS Average maturity in days versus the average maturity in days of from the Bayer internal trials. LODGING RESISTANCE GOOD STRONG VERY STRONG Please note: Information displayed on this chart is based on performance ratings and data compiled from several Bayer internal trials over multiple years. Results may vary on your farm due to environmental factors and preferred management practices. 7
INVIGOR HYBRID NAMING SYSTEM hybrids are classified according to an easy-to-remember naming system. Every character within the naming system provides you with specific product information. The initial letter designates herbicide tolerance (L signifies the LibertyLink system) First number specifies the series (i.e., 1, 2, 3, and so on) Second number represents maturity rating (i.e., 3 early, 5 mid, 7 long) Third number signifies the hybrid s place in the series Last letter is used to highlight specific agronomic characteristics of the hybrid (i.e., P for pod shatter reduction, C for clubroot resistance and H for Health hybrids) 8
TAILORED TO MEET YOUR NEEDS The chart to the right is designed to help you select your preferred hybrids based on your specific growing challenges and concerns. NEW NEW Comments I want the highest yield potential Conditions vary yearly; growing multiple hybrids can maximize your yield opportunity I need a canola hybrid with excellent standability Environmental conditions often delay seeding I need a canola hybrid with clubroot resistance I want to straight cut my canola I want to minimize the risk of early season frost I want the security of a contract I want to use the LibertyLink herbicide system The earliest maturing hybrids are green. We recommend if there is the risk of clubroot Use clubroot mitigation practices All canola can be straight cut, but only and have pod shatter protection We recommend if there is a risk of clubroot Health hybrids are exclusively available at Cargill and independent retailers Liberty herbicide is the only Group 10 registered for use on canola Very Strong Strong 9
HIGHER ROI INVIGOR POD SHATTER REDUCTION HYBRIDS The game-changing pod shatter reduction technology of and new offers growers excellent yield protection from adverse conditions at harvest and the ability to straight cut canola. Stronger pod seams and stems firmly adhere to the plant longer and enable seeds to more fully mature safely within the pod until harvested. There is a dramatic change in the wind in the way growers approach their canola harvest! Bayer is predicting that by 2020, as much as 40% to 50% of canola in Western Canada will be straight cut. 21 INVIGOR YIELDS CLUBROOT RESISTANCE Clubroot is a serious disease that can cause major yield loss. Implementing an integrated pest management system using a hybrid with built-in resistance is an excellent tool to help manage the disease. Maximize and protect the potential of your crop with and. Each hybrid has been engineered to help prevent the development of clubroot. CLUBROOT-RESISTANT CANOLA GENETICS As part of an integrated pest management strategy for clubroot disease in canola, and have been developed to be resistant to the predominant clubroot pathotypes identified in Canada at the time the hybrids were registered. In field environments, clubroot populations may contain or develop additional pathotypes, such as 5X; where, and other clubroot-resistant canola hybrids with similar resistance profiles could be susceptible. New pathotypes may become dominant in the clubroot population if canola hybrids with similar resistance profiles are used repeatedly in the same field. To maximize the durability of genetic resistance in canola hybrids, appropriate integrated pest management strategies should be followed. Bayer supports the Canola Council of Canada s agronomic recommendations when growing these hybrids. 21

RESULTS THAT SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES COMPARING CANOLA TO CANOLA The team is a family of passionate experts who are driven by your success. As part of that family, Bayer s Market Development group meticulously oversees the DST program to deliver trusted local results. To further maintain the equality and impartiality of the results, all trials are managed by real growers who use their own equipment and agronomic practices. All trials are closely monitored by the Market Development Specialist team to ensure all applications (herbicide, fungicide and insecticide) and swathing are appropriately timed. Every trial is replicated on the same field and hybrids are only compared to one another when grown at common sites. Visit Results.ca to find out why more growers trust on more acres than any other hybrid canola in Canada. 28
START FRESH FOR A STRONG YIELD Tighter crop rotations have led to an abundance of volunteer canola across the Prairies. The key to preventing volunteers from becoming a problem is planning ahead and using the right tools In many instances, volunteer canola can be tolerant to the herbicide system being used In advance of seeding, manage volunteer canola to reduce the likelihood that they will serve as a host for harmful diseases and protect the identity of the agronomic traits in the canola crop you intend to seed Manage your volunteer canola with Pardner herbicide, which is registered for pre-seed application and can be tank mixed with most glyphosate herbicides Pardner is a critical tool for LibertyLink and Roundup Ready canola growers to control all types of volunteer canola (1 to 4 leaf stage) Gets your canola crop off to a successful start and maximizes yield potential For more information, visit: cropscience.bayer.ca/pardner Control (%) Volunteer Canola Control Pardner + glyphosate CleanStart 66.0 Source: 15 Bayer Agronomic Development trials ( ), all treatments applied at 10 GPA, days after a pre-seed application.
