7 Details SAC meeting conducted in Date : Number of Participants : 23 No. of absentee s: 0 S.No Salient Recommendations Action taken 1 Trainings on timber tree cultivation techniques should be given in coordination with Department of Forestry. 2 Explore the methods to improve the paddy straw quality in machine harvested paddy fields. 3 Rearing of sheep s in ICAR-KVK farm may be initiated before popularizing in Thiruvarur District. 4 Model mulberry garden may be developed at ICAR-KVK, Needamangalam. 5 Invite NABARD and Lead Bank officials for giving details about their schemes on agriculture and allied sectors during the training programme. 6 Dwarf karpooravalli banana variety may be demonstrated in Thiruvarur District with an input from National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB), Trichy. 7 New technologies, varieties may be popularized by conducting campaigns, field days and giving wider publicity through print and electronic media. 8 Demonstration of fodder cultivation in Thiruvarur district may be conducted jointly with Department of Animal husbandry. Discussed with department of Forestry and the training will be conducted during March 2017 The paddy straw quality in machine harvested paddy fields is improved during baling with baler and training will be conducted during Sambha/Thaladi harvest. 2 Female and 1 Male sheep purchased from MSSRF, Mecheri and included in ICAR-KVK farm Requested mulberry seedlings from Sericulture Department for planting during Kharif 2017 NABARD and Lead Bank officials for giving details about their schemes on agriculture and allied sectors during the training programme on , , and Dwarf karpooravalli banana variety will be demonstrated in Thiruvarur District with an input from National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB), Trichy during of FLD programme. New technologies, varieties are popularized through print (Dailies), Magzines (Valarum vellanmai, Malarum Vellanmai) and electronic media (All India Radio, SMS portal, WhatsApp messages) FLD on Model Fodder plot in Tiruvarur District was conducted in 10 farmers field in Needamangalam block during this year

8 8 9 Production of fodder seeds and cuttings may be initiated in ICAR-KVK farm for supplying to the farmers of Thiruvarur district. 10 Utilizing the services of scientists from nearby research stations for conducting trainings, demonstrations, on farm testing and field days. 11 Rearing of Poultry desi birds like Vanaraj and Gramapriya may be demonstrated in Thiruvarur District. 12 Model fish pond may be developed at ICAR-KV farm by getting fund from National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad. 13 New strategies for water saving methods in paddy cultivation may be explored and demonstrated to the farmers of Thiruvarur District. 14 Trainings and demonstration of Roof top garden may be given to urban people of Thiruvarur District. 15 Nutritional chart for important crops may be displayed at ICAR-KVK, Needamangalam 16 Demonstration of releasing parasitoids for the management of cotton mealy bug. 17 Trainings on micro irrigations like sprinklers, rain guns may be given and demonstrated in vegetable crops. 18 Trainings on value addition in paddy and pulses may be given to the farmers of Thiruvarur district Sowing of fodder crops (Desmanthus, Co FS 29 and Co 4 slips) initiated in ICAR-KVK Model Fodder plot for supplying to the farmers of Thiruvarur district. Service of the scientists from Tamil Nadu Rice Reasearch Institute, Aduthurai, were utilized for conducting training on NADP Pulse production. Rearing of Poultry desi birds like Vanaraj and Gramapriya will be initiated in this financial year along with FTC, Thiruvarur. Development of model fish pond at ICAR-KVK farm were discussed with Committee Member of National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad for financial assistance. They suggested to send the proposal during next financial year New strategies for water saving methods in paddy cultivation will be explored and demonstrated to the farmers of Thiruvarur District during this year FLD programme Trainings and demonstration of Roof top garden will be given to urban people of Thiruvaru District during this year training programme Preparation of charts are under progress Demonstration of releasing parasitoids for the management of cotton mealy bug is in progress. Trainings and Demonstrations on micro irrigations like sprinklers, rain guns will be given in vegetable crops during this year FLD programme Trainings on value addition in paddy and pulses may be given to the farmers of Thiruvarur district during this year training programme
