Establishment and Development of the Centre KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA, NAMAKKAL Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Namakkal, a technology transfer centre for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Home Science and Fisheries production was started functioning from as a constituent unit of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai 51 and financially supported under Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. Our Kendra caters the farming community, Self Help Groups, Rural Youths, Extension personnel etc., through various programmes like trainings, On Farm Testings, Front Line Demonstrations and Advisory services. A total of fifty acres of land is possessed by this Kendra and has established various demonstration units with emphasis to integrate Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Home Science enterprises so that, year round income can be generated by the farming community. Location Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Namakkal is established at Veterinary College and Research Institute campus, Namakkal which is about 7kms away from Namakkal in North Western Zone. 3. Services offered 1. Conducting On Farm Testing for identifying technologies in terms of location specific sustainable land use system. 2. Organizing training to update the extension personnel with emerging advances in agricultural research on regular basis. 3. Organizing short and long term training courses in agriculture and allied vocations for the farmers and rural youth with emphasis on Learning by doing for higher production on farms and generating self employment.

2 4. Organizing frontline demonstration on various crops to generate production data and feedback information. 5. Outcome 25 (10ha) Paddy variety TKM.13 registered grain yield of 6750 kg / ha under SRI than the local variety. 25 (10ha) Sorghum var.paiyur-2 produced higher grain (1440 kg/ha) and fodder yield (5400 kg/ha). 25 (10ha) Synchronised maturity with high yield of 400 kg/acre. Package of Practices for Mastitis Control and Clean Milk Production 20 (2ha) Bajra Napier hybrid grass CO.5 produced more green fodder yield of 150 tons /ha during winter season. 40 (40 acres) IPM practiced farmers could save up to Rs. 6000/acre towards avoiding of unwanted chemical spray in addition to getting an yield of 20.25t/ha. 20 (acres) Arka Rakshak hybrid yielded maximum of 48 tons/acre. 10 (1acre) Reduced seed rate of 180 kg/acre against 800 kg/acre in Normal method and also minimized the cost involved for seed purchase (Rs.22000/acre) 25 (150) Mortality reduced (2-3%). Weight gain of 5 kg within one month.increased twinning and triplet percentage 5 (100) Mortality reduced (3%). Increased birth weight of 1.75 kg 50 Sub clinical &clinical mastitis incidence will be reduced to 4 %. Technical session on Shelter management for crossbred animals to improve reproductive efficiency, Feeding strategies to improve reproductive efficiency, Feeding strategies for Dairy animal in Tamil Nadu Present status, Reproductive performance in Dairy cattle Present strategies and Green fodder production and storage was taken. 3 International soil year 2015 and Pre Rabi awareness campaign Pachudaiyampalayam pudur, Namagiripettai block, Rasipuram Tk, Namakkal Dt. Latest technologies on Agriculture, Horticulture, Plant Protection and Animal Husbandry and fisheries were exhibited and demonstrated to the farmers samples were analysed out of which 80% were deficit in organic carbon. 3. An exhibition displaying the varieties of soil, organic

Mass Multiplication of Parasitoid for Control of Mealy Bug in Tapioca Tapioca is cultivated in 15000ha as a rainfed crop. During the year 2010, outbreak of mealy bug was seen in Tapioca crop. Profenophos chemical was used for controlling the mealy bug. It was not effective. Hence through ATMA researchable programme, TANUVAS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Namakkal jointly with the Department of Agriculture, Horticulture and Sericulture adopted an Integrated Pest Management programme to control the mealy bug throughout the district. 50 Nos. of Acerophagus Papayae parasitoid was procured from KVK, Sandhiyur during January 2011 and multiplied. Since the demand was more, 10 farmers were also trained for mass multiplication of Acerophagus papayae parasitoid and within a period of 18 days, of Acerophagus Papayae parasitoid were multiplied and released in 3945 acres of Tapioca fields benefiting 1075 farmers. In total Nos. were distributed to 3512 farmers covering around an area of acres which helped in complete eradication of the mealy bug pest and nearly 40% of productivity loss was also prevented. b. Establishment of Community Radio Station ATMA has sanctioned establishment of Community Radio Station at TANUVAS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Namakkal with a financial outlay of lakhs. This community Radio Station caters 1.5 lakh farm families in Namakkal, Mohanur, Erumapatti, Sendamangalam, Paramathy, Puduchathiam and Elachipalayam blocks of Namakkal in an area of 25 kms radius. The frequency is 91.2 MHz and transmission is with 50 watts transmitter. Focus is given on Natural Resource Management, crop, livestock and fisheries production. Institutional approaches for sustainable Agriculture. The programmes are scheduled for 2 hours live and 2 hours repeat in 1 st year and 3 hours live and 3 hours repeat from 2nd year onwards.

8 c. Public Private Partnership mode The importance of feeding for fodder for high yielding dairy cows has been sensitized by the Animal husbandry extension workers and farmers in Namakkal district. But the gap in availability of quality vegetable seeds/ Planting materials is still wide open. An attempt has been made by KVK, Namakkal during to encourage Livestock/Agricultural farmers to produce forage seed/setts/vegetable seeds/planting material for horticultural crops, which will be tested for quality and supplied to needy farmers/departments through KVK under PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP MODE. 9.
