4 Dear Friend of Dairyland: The sales season marks the 110th year for this business, now known as Dairyland Seed. The business has undergone many changes during this time, adapting to meet ever-evolving market demands and adjusting to changes in leadership. However, none of these changes were more significant than what the company faced this past fall the loss of a leader, a visionary, and most of all, a friend of ours and the agriculture industry. Of course, I am talking about the passing of Tom Strachota. True to the values that have allowed us to be in business for 110 years, we at Dairyland Seed were positioned to carry on the traditions instilled by Tom and his family members since the company began. e are proud to say that we have continued doing what has always been done taking care of our customers fairly and ethically with the best products and services we can provide. As proud as we are of the past, we are equally as excited about the future of Dairyland and our opportunity to earn your trust and business will continue to bring change to agriculture and Dairyland, but we are confident in our direction and our ability to thrive amidst that change. e will stick to our core values and live by our 5 Rules. For those who are unfamiliar with these rules, they are listed below. They may only be 23 words, but they say quite a lot. e believe in them, and we live them daily. Do the right thing. Listen more than you talk. Tell the truth. If you screw it up, fix it. The customer comes first. e look forward to working with you and earning your business in 2018! 8 DO AGROSCIENCES TECHNOLOGY Broadest-spectrum above- and belowground control SmartStax trait technology provides the broadest spectrum of above- and below-ground pest protection available. Multiple modes of action target insects such as northern and western corn rootworm, European corn borer, southwestern corn borer, corn earworm, fall armyworm, and black cutworm. SmartStax attacks pests in multiple areas of the midgut, reducing the likelihood of insect resistance and increasing control. SmartStax hybrids help Dairyland Seed growers maximize whole-farm yield potential by providing unmatched insect control. Superior aboveground insect protection Ideal for growers with moderate to no rootworm pressure, PowerCore trait technology delivers superior control of above-ground insects in corn. PowerCore is a pyramid of three Bt proteins for improved resistance management and control of insects such as corn earworm, black cutworm, European corn borer, southwestern corn borer and fall armyworm. PowerCore is available in elite, highyielding genetics to help maximize yield on your farm. The focused above-ground control of PowerCore complements SmartStax in the Dairyland Seed lineup. 22 TRAIT STEARDSHIP REFUGE AND Bt MANAGEMENT Practicing sound Bt management and following grain marketing requirements are crucial to protecting your crop plan options, today and in the future. hen planting hybrids with in-plant traits, it s important that you follow all applicable Insect Resistant Management (IRM) and grain marketing requirements. Consult Corn Product Use Guide for complete details. REFUGE SIZE AND DISTANCE SmartStax Refuge Advanced PowerCore Refuge Advanced SmartStax PowerCore HERCULEX XTRA Insect Protection HERCULEX Insect Protection Separate Refuge Refuge Size Requirement Refuge Distance Requirement Corn Belt Cotton Belt None None ithin or adjacent ithin, adjacent or up to a half-mile ithin or adjacent ithin, adjacent or up to half-mile 5% refuge equals 5 acres of non-bt corn for every 95 acres of Bt corn planted 20% refuge equals 20 acres of non-bt corn for every 80 acres of Bt corn planted 50% refuge equals 50 acres of non-bt corn for every 50 acres of Bt corn planted Agrisure GT/CB/LL, Agrisure 3000GT, and Agrisure 3110 require a 20% refuge in the Corn Belt and a 50% refuge in the Cotton Belt. Agrisure 3122 and Agrisure Viptera 3220 require a 5% refuge in the Corn Belt and a 20% refuge in the Cotton Belt. For Cotton Belt refuge requirements, consult Corn Product Use Guide. REFUGE LOCATION AND CONFIGURATION OPTIONS The structured refuge may be planted as an in-field refuge or an adjacent (e.g., across the road) refuge. Refuge required for Herculex I Insect Protection and PowerCore trait technology as well as SmartStax in states where CRS are not significant also may be planted as a separate block that is within a half-mile of the Bt field. In-field refuge options include blocks, perimeter strips (i.e., strips around the field) or in-field strips. In-field blocks or strips must be at least four consecutive rows wide. Seed mixtures of Bt and non-bt corn (other than the mixture provided as Refuge Advanced ) are not permitted. hen switching between Bt hybrids and the seed to be planted in the refuge, planter hoppers should be cleaned out to avoid inadvertent mixing of seed. Growers should calculate the acres required for refuge and plant the appropriate amount of refuge seed for the configuration options selected. For example, in choosing to plant in-field strips, a grower must calculate how much refuge seed is needed to meet the minimum refuge requirement and fill the refuge planter boxes with that amount. Strips should be planted until the minimum refuge seed is completely used. The remainder of the field can then be planted with Bt seed in all boxes. Common refuge options Field Edge Compact Block Headland Across Field Additional refuge options for Herculex I, PowerCore and SmartStax (select states only for SmartStax) Half-mile 22 Splitting Planter Perimeter Adjacent Field Bt corn Refuge corn (does not contain Bt genes for control of corn borers or corn rootworms) Illustrations are not a representation of refuge size requirements. Please see Refuge Size and Distance section for minimum refuge requirements by product.

23 CROP AND GRAIN MARKETING STEARDSHIP Dow AgroSciences is a member of Excellence Through Stewardship (ETS). Dow AgroSciences products are commercialized in accordance with ETS product launch stewardship guidance, and Dow AgroSciences Product Launch Stewardship Policy. Before selecting hybrids for your crop plan, Dow AgroSciences recommends you know and understand whether the hybrid you have chosen is a conventional hybrid, one approved for export or one not yet approved for export. It is important that you consult your trait provider s technical agreements prior to planting to understand crop requirements and approved corn markets. Any grain or material produced from Bt seed can only be exported to, or used in, processed in or sold in countries where all necessary regulatory approvals have been granted. It is a violation of national and international law to move material containing biotechnology traits across boundaries into nations where import is not permitted. Talk to your grain handler or purchaser in advance to facilitate appropriate crop and grain or material handling and marketing. For further information about your crop or grain marketing options, contact Dow AgroSciences at ( ). Information regarding the regulatory and market status of agricultural biotechnology products can be found at: biotradestatus.com. TECHNOLOGY USE AGREEMENT You must have a valid, executed Technology Use Agreement on file with Dow AgroSciences to legally obtain, plant, and grow products that contain Bt technology from Dow AgroSciences. Technology Use Agreements can be found at traitstewardship.com or can be signed electronically at agcelerate.com. ROTATE CROPS: Crop rotation to a non-host crop such as soybeans (or an alternative crop) helps lower the CR pressure and break the pest cycle. MULTIPLE MODES OF ACTION: Planting corn hybrids with pyramided CR traits such as SmartStax trait technology versus a single CR-traited hybrid, helps to improve CR control. Consider using a non-cr Bt corn (such as PowerCore trait technology) or non-bt corn in some years. SCOUT FIELDS: Scout for CR larvae and adult beetles to determine economic pressure and evaluate appropriate control measures. INSECTICIDE USE: The application of an insecticide to the soil surface, in furrows and/or incorporated into the soil (referred to as insecticide, soil insecticide or SAI ) is not recommended for control of CR in Bt-traited corn products except under limited circumstances and in consultation with Extension, crop consultants or other local experts. SAIs should not be necessary for CR control with pyramided CR trait Bt corn products such as SmartStax. See or for additional information on CR refuge requirements and best management practices. KNO BEFORE YOU GRO Before selecting hybrids for your crop plan, Dow AgroSciences and the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) recommend you know and understand whether the hybrid you ve chosen is a conventional hybrid, approved for export to the purchasing country or one not yet approved for export. It is important that you read the technology use agreement from the technology provider prior to planting, so you understand crop requirements and to ensure that all exported grain goes only to approved corn markets. CORN ROOTORM BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES Follow recommended Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices, including a multi-year crop rotation strategy, cultural control, scouting and appropriate use of pest control. For fields with a history of, or at risk for, large populations of CR, such as those planted to continuous corn, the following best management practices are recommended. REFUGE CALCULATOR National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) in collaboration with the industry has developed a eb-based calculator to help growers calculate the minimum refuge requirements for each of the Bt products on their farm. This calculator can be accessed at refuge.irmcalculator.com. 23
