Here are some best management practices: Start by selecting the best soil and hybrid to maximize yield and quality. Get the most production from each plant by seeding each hybrid at its recommended population. Ensure your hybrid receives good fertility so it can produce at maximum potential. Provide broad-spectrum protection against above-ground insects with PowerCore and above- and below-ground insects with SmartStax hybrids. Ensure proper moisture level and chop length at harvest for best success. When storing silage, ensure proper fermentation through uniform and tight packing, and with the use of a top quality inoculant. This new alfalfa offers increased fibre digestibility and more harvest flexibility over conventional alfalfa. The result is higher milk output and a wider window at harvest to achieve maximum yield and nutritional value. All Dow Seeds alfalfa varieties are selected for industry-leading performance, quality and yield. Regardless of your priority, our alfalfa is field proven and tested. 20

23 THE SILAGE LEADERS Dow Seeds is the industry-leading supplier of Silage Specific corn hybrids. No other seed company can compare with the extensive research, development, testing, nutrition management and overall silage corn experience of Dow Seeds. With higher digestibility than grain corn, our BMR hybrids mean you can feed less grain with higher forage intake for healthy cows and more milk in the tank. SILAGE HYBRIDS BRED FOR DAIRY FARM PROFITS Bred specifically for the highest digestibility possible, our Silage- Specific BMR corn hybrids maximize milk production unlike any other feed. We offer 13 BMR hybrids with leading trait technologies, including Enlist and SmartStax with a range of relative maturity from 2600 to 3250 CHU. A BETTER BMR There are four different BMR gene variations (bm1, bm2, bm3, bm4) and they all differ when it comes to corn silage performance. All Dow Seeds brand BMR corn hybrids contain the superior bm3 gene, which is lower in lignin and highest in digestibility among all BMR gene variations. * PROOF IN PRODUCTION Our BMR corn hybrids deliver more milk per tonne of forage than any other silage corn on the market because higher digestibility of BMR corn translates into higher feed intake. They have proven to deliver an average of 2.2 more kgs of milk per cow per day. ** THE TMF DIFFERENCE For more than 20 years, Dow AgroSciences has bred, evaluated and screened hybrids specifically for corn silage. This investment has led to Dow Seeds award-winning lineup of TMF hybrids producing superior fibre digestibility as compared with alternative silage hybrids, other than BMR. They ve been proven to show high tonnage potential, along with high nutrient yield per acre and are available in maturities that produce maximum nutrient values at harvest. * Ostrander B, Maillot M, Toillon S, Barriere Y, Pollascek M, Besle J. 24 Advancing Modern Farming INTRODUCING THE ENLIST WEED CONTROL SYSTEM Now available from Dow AgroSciences, the Enlist weed control system will help growers meet the challenge of managing hard-to-control weeds, including glyphosate-resistant species. ENLIST DUO HERBICIDE The Enlist weed control system features Enlist Duo herbicide that is a proprietary blend of glyphosate and new 2,4-D choline, containing Colex-D Technology. Two modes of action provide exceptional weed control and herbicide resistance management. Exceptional weed control Near zero volatility What it delivers Minimized potential for physical drift FLEXIBLE AND EASY TO USE Low odour Improved handling characteristics Enlist Duo applications allow for a range in droplet size, from a coarse to extremely coarse spray droplet. Ultra coarse droplet size is not recommended as it may result in decreased weed control and increased crop injury. Numerous drift reducing nozzles (i.e. air induction) are available in the marketplace and may already be on your sprayer. Here are just some of the weeds controlled by Enlist Duo: Grass Weed Species Barnyard grass Crabgrass Fall panicum Green foxtail Broadleaf Weed Species Buckwheat, tartary & wild Bluebur Canada fleabane * (horseweed) Canada thistle Chickweed Cocklebur Quack grass Volunteer barley Volunteer wheat Wild oats Common ragweed * Corn spurry Dandelion Eastern black nightshade Field horsetail Flixweed Giant ragweed * Hemp-nettle Kochia * Lady s thumb Lamb s-quarters Morningglory Red root pigweed Smartweed *including biotypes resistant to glyphosate and ALS modes of action Wild proso millet Yellow foxtail And many more Sow thistle Velvetleaf Vetch Volunteer canola * And many more Canada Fleabane Horsetail Vetch 22

25 WHO S TOUGH NOW? Exceptional weed control with Enlist Duo NEAR-ZERO volatility MINIMIZED potential for physical drift An EASY-TO-USE SYSTEM for use on exceptional new Enlist corn hybrids STOP WEEDS, WITHOUT DRIFT OR VOLATILITY. Weeds started this fight. Time to finish it with the Enlist weed control system. Enlist Duo herbicide makes it easy to protect your crops. And our Colex-D technology reduces drift and volatility to protect your neighbour s crops too. So much for those so-called tough weeds. Take control at EnlistCanada.ca or visit your local seed retailer. 26 REFUGE MANAGEMENT Your Insect Resistance Management (IRM) plan is key to ensuring the sustainability of Bt crops for years to come. If you are planting a Bt corn hybrid you must also plant a non Bt refuge. When designing your IRM plan, keep the following in mind: Refuge Advanced hybrids require no separate refuge because the refuge is in the bag. If planting PowerCore or SmartStax hybrids by Dow Seeds, refuge requirement is reduced from 20% to 5%. The non-bt corn and the Bt corn should be of similar maturity, growth and yield potential. If planting in strips, a minimum of four rows per strip is required. Scout for indications of resistance to Bt. Keep accurate records of where Bt and non-bt hybrids are planted. LEPIDOPTERA PESTS OF CORN NUMBER OF MODES OF ACTION (MOA) FOR EACH PEST (X=1MOA XX=2MOA XXX=3MOA) European Corn Borer XXX XXX SW Corn Borer XXX XXX Corn Earworm XX XX Fall Armyworm XXX XXX Black Cutworm X X Stalk Borer XX XX Corn Rootworm XX REFUGE REQUIREMENT 5% 5% 0% 0% Above ground Below Planting Configurations 5% 20% Refuge for SmartStax corn Bt Corn Refuge for other corn LOCATION AND SPACING WHY? The IRM Verification Program requires all registrants of Bt corn products (including Dow AgroSciences) to evaluate growers adherence to the IRM requirements. Growers who do not adhere to the IRM requirements will be denied access to their Bt corn hybrids if found to be noncompliant two years in a row. Calculating the economic opportunity from reduced refuge. PowerCore and SmartStax hybrids have an average 11 bu/ac yield advantage compared with non-bt hybrids under minimal insect pressure in yield studies conducted across multiple locations. The difference is easy to calculate. Required refuge x Average yield loss = loss/acre x $/bushel = loss/acre 20% x 11 = -2.2 bus x $ 5.00 = ($11.00) 5% x 11 = bus x $ 5.00 = ($2.75) Advantage: $11.00 $2.75 = $8.25 per acre or $20.63 per unit based on a seeding rate of 32,000 per acre. You have the potential to save $20.63 per unit! Strips 24

Dow Seeds supports the seed bag collection efforts of CleanFarms. STEWARDSHIP MATTERS Dow AgroSciences is a member of Excellence Through Stewardship (ETS). Our products are commercialized in accordance with ETS product launch guidance, and the Dow AgroSciences Product Launch Stewardship Policy. Before selecting hybrids for your crop plan, Dow AgroSciences recommends you know and understand whether the hybrid you have chosen is a conventional hybrid, one approved for export or one not yet approved for export. It is important that you consult your trait provider s technical agreements prior to planting to understand crop requirements and approved corn markets. Any grain or material produced from Bt seed can only be exported to, used in, processed in and/or sold in countries where all necessary regulatory approvals have been granted. It is a violation of national and international law to move material containing biotechnology traits across boundaries into nations where import is not permitted. Talk to your grain handler or purchaser in advance to facilitate appropriate crop and grain or material handling and marketing. For further information about your crop or grain marketing options, contact Dow Seeds at Find information about the regulatory and market status of agriculture biotechnology products at: and ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW PESTICIDE LABEL DIRECTIONS Roundup Ready crops contain genes that confer tolerance to glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup brand agricultural herbicides. Roundup brand agricultural herbicides will kill crops that are not tolerant to glyphosate. Before opening a bag of seed, be sure to read and understand the stewardship requirements, including applicable refuge requirements for insect resistance management, for the biotechnology traits expressed in the seed set forth in the technology agreement that you sign. By opening and using a bag of seed, you are reaffirming your obligation to comply with those stewardship requirements. 25
