2 REMEDY OPERATION STATUS (ROS) REPORT On behalf of EXXONMOBIL ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES COMPANY FORMER EXXON SERVICE STATION # SALEM STREET MALDEN, MASSACHUSETTS MADEP Release Tracking Number (RTN) Regulatory Status: ROS Opinion submitted August 6, 2007 Monitoring Period: December 202 through May 203 Work Performed: On February 26, 203, Kleinfelder personnel gauged and sampled six groundwater monitoring wells (MW-, MW-0, MW-202, MW- 203, MW-206 and MW-207). Refer to Plate for the site plan and historical groundwater flow direction. Groundwater samples were collected and submitted for laboratory analysis of volatile petroleum hydrocarbons (VPH) via Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection approved methodology. Current groundwater analytical data are summarized in Table. All historical groundwater analytical data collected from previous consultants are summarized in Appendix A. Laboratory analytical results are presented in Appendix B. Groundwater Monitoring and Characteristics: On May 22, 203, Kleinfelder personnel gauged sixteen monitoring wells (MW-, MW-2, MW-0, MW-02, MW-03, MW- 0, MW-06, MW-20, MW-202, MW-203, MW-20, MW-206, MW-207, MW-302, MW-303, and MW-304). Refer to Table for gauging data. Groundwater elevation is depicted on a groundwater contour map included as Plate 2. Total number of active site wells: 7 Gauging and Sampling Frequency: Semi-annual Non-Aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) Detected: None Groundwater Classification: GW-2 / GW-3 Groundwater Depth: See Table Historic Groundwater Flow Direction: Southwest (locally variable) 2230/FRM3R0286 Page of 3 June, 203 Speen Street, Suite 200, Framingham, MA 070 p f
3 Significant Modifications to Monitoring Program or Corrective Measures Taken Pursuant to 30 CMR (2) During the May 22, 203 gauging event, monitoring wells MW-2 and MW-06 were dry. In addition, Kleinfelder personnel were unable to remove tubing found in MW-0 and therefore were unable to gauge the depth to groundwater at this location. There were no significant modifications or corrective measures taken during this monitoring period. Remedial Operation Status Evaluation Pursuant to 30 CMR (2) Concentrations of VPH analytes were below applicable Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) Method GW-3 Groundwater Standards in groundwater samples collected and analyzed during this reporting period, with the exception of total xylenes concentrations in monitoring wells MW- and MW-0 in February 203 (Table ). Although monitoring wells MW-02 and MW-03 were not sampled during the reporting period, historical data included in Appendix A indicates that constituents of concern (COCs) have been generally below the laboratory reporting limit, and below the MCP Method GW-2 Groundwater Standards that would apply to these locations. If MCP Method GW-2 Groundwater Standards were to be conservatively applied to downgradient monitoring wells MW-203, MW-20, MW-206 and MW-207, there would be no exceedances of MCP Method GW-2 Groundwater Standards in groundwater collected from these wells during the February 203 sampling event. In addition, concentrations of COCs in groundwater collected from monitoring well MW-206 are not generally detected above the laboratory reporting limit, and this monitoring well is considered to be the most downgradient offsite well. On this basis, there is no likely risk of vapor intrusion into buildings downgradient of the subject property. Given the downward trends in concentrations of dissolved-phase petroleum and the decreasing trends in observed NAPL thickness in groundwater at the site, monitored natural attenuation and the use of absorbent socks for recovery of residual NAPL continues to be a feasible remedial approach for RTN Public Involvement Pursuant to 30 CMR (0)(c) In accordance with 30 CMR (0), property owners have been provided the results of the February 203 sampling event (Appendix C). FUTURE COURSE OF ACTIONS: On behalf of ExxonMobil Environmental Services Company, Kleinfelder provides the following timeline for upcoming actions associated with this site: Groundwater Monitoring/Sampling Event August 203 ROS Report on or before December 2, /FRM3R0286 Page 2 of 3 June, 203 Speen Street, Suite 200, Framingham, MA 070 p f

25 Case Narrative Client: Kleinfelder Inc TestAmerica Job ID: Project/Site: 3004 SDG: 932 Salem Street, Malden, MA Job ID: Laboratory: TestAmerica Nashville Narrative CASE NARRATIVE Client: Kleinfelder Inc Project: 3004 Report Number: With the exceptions noted as flags or footnotes, standard analytical protocols were followed in the analysis of the samples and no problems were encountered or anomalies observed. In addition all laboratory quality control samples were within established control limits, with any exceptions noted below. Each sample was analyzed to achieve the lowest possible reporting limit within the constraints of the method. In some cases, due to interference or analytes present at high concentrations, samples were diluted. For diluted samples, the reporting limits are adjusted relative to the dilution required. Calculations are performed before rounding to avoid round-off errors in calculated results. All holding times were met and proper preservation noted for the methods performed on these samples, unless otherwise detailed in the individual sections below TestAmerica utilizes USEPA approved methods, where applicable, in all analytical work. The samples presented in this report were analyzed for the parameter(s) listed on the analytical methods summary page in accordance with the method(s) indicated and were analyzed in accordance with Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP), where applicable. The following requested analytes, parameter groups or methods analyzed and contained in this report are not certified by the laboratory:a summary of QC data for these analyses is included at the back of the report. TestAmerica Nashville attests to the validity of the laboratory data generated by TestAmerica facilities reported herein. All analyses performed by TestAmerica facilities were done using established laboratory SOPs that incorporate QA/QC procedures described in the applicable methods. TestAmerica's operations groups have reviewed the data for compliance with the laboratory QA/QC plan, and data have been found to be compliant with laboratory protocols unless otherwise noted below. All solid sample results are reported on an "as received" basis unless otherwise indicated by the presence of a % solids value in the method header. This laboratory report is confidential and is intended for the sole use of TestAmerica and its client. RECEIPT The samples were received on 3//203 8:0 AM; the samples arrived in good condition, properly preserved and, where required, on ice. The temperature of the cooler at receipt was 2.7º C. MASSACHUSETTS VOLATILE PETROLEUM HYDROCARBONS Samples MW- ( ), MW-0 ( ), MW-202 ( ), MW-203 ( ), MW-206 ( ) and MW-207 ( ) were analyzed for Massachusetts Volatile Petroleum Hydrocarbons in accordance with MADEP. The samples were analyzed on 03/0/203 and 03/06/203. Samples MW- ( )[0X], MW- ( )[0X], MW-0 ( )[0X], MW-0 ( )[0X] and MW-202 ( )[X] required dilution prior to analysis. The reporting limits have been adjusted accordingly. ph is <2 for all these samples on batch # No difficulties were encountered during the MAVPH analyses. All quality control parameters were within the acceptance limits. TestAmerica Nashville Page 4 of 23 3/3/203
