2 CUSTOMER PROFILE The U.S. Travel Association is a national organization that leverages the collective strength of industry professionals to grow their businesses beyond what they can do individually. The USTA assists its members with programs and platforms to help promote travel to and within the United States. The USTA also leads industry-wide initiatives to grow and sustain travel and protects the freedom to travel. PROJECT OBJECTIVE The (ITA) is a Webbased interactive tool developed for the U.S. Travel Association (USTA). This tool is designed to visualize and analyze domestic and international U.S. travel statistics in a variety of categories based on the user s selected subscription. BACKGROUND The USTA was looking for a comprehensive data management system to handle large amounts of accumulated U.S. travel industry data. This system needed to provide a common data storage algorithm, tools for data analysis on the state and municipal level, and data visualization capabilities. Moreover, the growing demand of industry professionals and investors for high-quality, relevant information pushed the USTA toward the development of a subscriptionbased, interactive research tool to support better informed decisions

3 PROJECT DESCRIPTION The publicly available portion of ITA includes an interactive United States map and help tutorials. The map tool of the Travel Economic Impact subscription appears as a landing page and enables the user to view national-level and statelevel economic impact components. It visualizes data for the selected indicator for a specific state or the U.S. as a whole. The Help Tutorials section contains a number of videos that explain how to use the ITA tool. The ITA tool is available through four subscriptions: TRAVEL ECONOMIC IMPACT SUBSCRIPTION The Travel Economic Impact Subscription provides annual travel economic impact data for the U.S. and all fifty states, including statistics on employment, payroll, expenditures, and taxes generated by the travel industry. MONTHLY TRAVEL STATISTICS SUBSCRIPTION The Monthly Travel Statistics Subscription includes national-level travel employment, inflation, and international trade statistics on a monthly basis. Comparable economy-wide monthly statistics are also included. This subscription includes data from 1985 to the most current year, updated monthly. INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL STATISTICS SUBSCRIPTION The International Travel Statistics Subscription provides interactive data related to international visitations to the U.S and U.S. resident travel abroad. It also includes U.S. travel trade statistics, average international traveler expenditures in the U.S., and global long-haul travel forecasts by country to help identify potential markets. STATE TOURISM OFFICE BUDGET This annual survey provides invaluable information on tourism office budgets and funding sources for all fifty states. The results of this survey compare state-by-state budget breakdowns in the areas of public and private funding allocations and marketing and promotion (domestic and international) for state agencies responsible for tourism development and promotion across the U.S. ITA subscribers can manipulate, display, and download statistics for analysis through a variety of 4 5

4 tools, including maps, dashboards, comparisons, rankings, advanced data queries, and so on. The Advanced Data Query tool is powered by Prognoz Analytical Query (OLAP) functionality, designed to create ad-hoc data queries and perform OLAP analysis using business graphics and a rich library of analytical functions. With this tool, subscribers can easily create reports to analyze any data slices in any form, including tables, charts, maps, matrices, tree maps, and bubble trees. ITA subscribers can also leverage the embedded API to import data from various USTA partner sources to the ITA data warehouse automatically. KEY FEATURES From , Prognoz was engaged in the development and implementation of enhancements to the ITA tool. In the course of this project, Prognoz proposed and implemented the display of the latest data on key indicators and a historical chart for the selected indicator on the Home page. PROVEN RESULTS The ITA tool enables the USTA to harness accumulated industryspecific data to identify revenuegenerating opportunities. Key industry indicators that might be of interest to users are now available on the Home page of the ITA tool; data dissemination using table files and data visualization using standard charts are no longer needed. Users can analyze actual industry data using dashboard charts. The number of data subscribers and subscription sales of USTA continue to grow thanks to the solution s data visualization capabilities. Users can create accurate printed outputs using the WYSIWYG interface. Data from the USTA s partner sources is imported to the data warehouse automatically. User access to data is granted using a subscription-based access control mechanism
