Public/Private Partnership Approach to Develop a Next Generation Analytics Platform Brock Bafford, RGRTA John Handley, Parc
Agenda RTS s and Parc s objectives Scope of the partnership Results so far Next steps
RTS s objectives Data driven decision making Optimize route design as the agency overhauls its routes Getting more people on the bus Identifying areas to put service that are currently under served. Use the data we are currently generating in a predictive manner.
Relationship history RGRTA has been a customer of the CAD/AVL system since 2000 In 2007, RTS contracted Xerox as the prime contractor of the TIDE project. Color coding for vehicle types and maintenance status Xerox developed a new electronic vehicle records system and yard Vehicle ID management for RTS. Pullout time. Time indicates Vehicle is assigned otherwise No time indicates vehicle Unassigned Xerox Parc is based in Rochester, NY 5: If OrbCAD detects outgoing Departing Time Point Encounter event then Vehicle object is removed from the parking Layout and/or the table (DB) of unparked vehicles. If OrbCAD detects incoming Arrival Time Point Encounter for the Garage, then the Vehicle is added to the table (DB) of unparked vehicles. Bold line indicates Garage/corridor frame Find Button Find vehicle on the garage layout Control Button Function related to modification of garage layout (only Help Button Yard Management detailed explanation Red color yardwalker) Indicates that vehicle status is Critical. This status is Yard Management YARDWALKER/Train-out East Main St Garage set - Microsoft either via VIR Internet or Maintenance Explorer system. Neither Find Control Help Yardwalker/train-out or Dispatcher can change the status of the vehicles Maintenance Maintenance Soft Seater Hard Seater MCI (Coach) Articulated (Critical) (Quick Fix) : : : : : : Info Info Info 302 Yellow color It indicates Quick fix vehicle status. The information for this status came form VIR 6: This area is reserved for specific functions. Different between Yardwalker/ Train-out and Dispatcher Pattern indicates pending changes have not yet been saved to the database. Pattern disappears once changes are saved. 120 OPTIONAL Vehicle ID is related to the size of the box The size of the box is proportional to 40 foot, 60 foot vehicle etc. The distance between the vehicle is set to predefined standard (example 2 feet). The length of each lane is proportional to predefined 11 vehicles/40 foot. D1-D6 is proportional to 4/3/2/1 60 foot vehicles Pattern indicates Mouse over a vehicle to get information via a detailed tooltip Done Local Intranet
RTS data strategy Building a data warehouse/business intelligence platform Use fare collection, on time performance, APC data to build analytics and make decisions Reporting is slow and dependent on potential broken data sources.
Xerox s objectives Co-develop features that solve customer s important problems Extend its current CAD/AVL offering to include advanced analytics Incorporate other data sources to create a true Mobility Analytics Platform
