1 Senior Consultant BSc(Hons), MSc, PGCM, CEng, CMgr, FCMI, FIOA Expertise Noise: Occupational exposure evaluation Occupational risk assessment and control Machinery safety & conformity Vibration: Hand-Arm vibration, Whole body vibration and shock Occupational exposure evaluation Occupational risk assessment and control Machinery Safety & Conformity Experience I am a consultant with over 30 years of experience in the field of noise and vibration including environmental acoustics, transportation noise, energy and experience in the investigation and prevention of occupational noise and vibration exposures associated with ill health. I am well versed in routine noise & vibration assessments. These assessments include BS 5228, BS4142, BB93, BS 8223, BREEAM, Noise at Work Regulations, Noise Insulation Regulations (Road and Rail), DMRB, assessments to name but a few. I have significant experience in vibration isolation and testing of elastomer products. My role, working for various consultancies throughout the United Kingdom, captured the co-ordination, training and development of staff; and management and delivery of acoustics expertise for a range of projects which included the environmental acoustic aspects of road and rail schemes, energy and power, wind farm assessments, often in the context of planning. I also undertook a lead acoustics assessor role on several other projects including the A66 Carkin Moor to Scotch Corner in the North of England. I have also worked on projects requiring building acoustics assessments such as Seaham Multi Use Centre for Dunham County Council. I have worked on Managed Motorway schemes (formerly termed Active Traffic Management). These are improvement schemes promoted by the Highways Agency, which are designed to reduce traffic congestion on the existing network. As part of this project, I headed up a team of acoustic consultants comprising three major consultancies to deliver all acoustic elements of the development. 2 development of a more robust methodology to assess these types of schemes; this was under review and preparation by the Highways Agency. My experience includes being an Expert Witness in Public Inquiries and I have been cross examined and given written evidence. 3 Selection of Experience Expert Witness Noise and Vibration Acts as an expert witness providing engineering evidence in relation to occupational disease claims for noise-induced hearing loss and hand-arm vibration syndrome/carpal tunnel syndrome vibration-related injuries. Public Enquiries/Planning Appeals I have been an expert witness in public inquiries namely Saddlers Farm and Fingal Glen road schemes. The IOA NW Committee serves to promote acoustics in the North and push the boundaries forward through collaborative working, calling on the resource of fellow acousticians in the north and elsewhere. It is a platform which allows me to be involved in current Noise & Vibration current affairs and contribute to change in acoustics. I am also a member of the IOA Amplitude Modulation Noise Working Group (AMNWG) which is concerned with acoustic effects from wind turbines. I also sit on the IOA Engineering Committee. Project Experience My project work so far has allowed me to liaise with multi-disciplinary environmental professionals, engineers and designers, stakeholder groups, and public/private sector clients on a regular basis. My experience includes work investigating elastomer products in the context of vibration isolation along with the testing of elastomer products. This included static and dynamic characterisation of their elastomer materials and bearings using the MTS machine.
