Modifications to windows from previously approved COA: a. The applicant should provide additional information on the type of replacement window proposed in this application. b. The new windows shown in the existing picture window opening represent an improvement over the previous application and would help reduce the negative effects of previous inappropriate modifications. Replacement of the previously shown hung windows with fixed units would dramatically alter the building s character. Along the front and rear elevations, this would not have a major negative impact on the historic portion of the home. Where shown flanking the front door, however, this type of window would be inappropriate. c. Comments from original application regarding window replacement: i. The design guidelines suggest that original windows should be retained when possible. If the existing windows are not deteriorated to the point that they cannot be saved, they should be retained. In addition, the guidelines suggest relocation of existing windows to new locations when historic buildings are modified. If all windows are to be replaced, the applicant should provide additional information on the proposed new windows.
