4 SUEZ NWS' waste business Dawn of the resource revolution The increasing scarcity of natural resources is a global challenge with rising population and increasing density in our cities. Today, only 2.5 per cent of the Earth s water is fresh. We must ensure the world has access to high quality drinking water. Today, 10 million tonnes of waste is produced every 24 hours. We must give waste a second life.
5 SUEZ: OVER 150 YEARS HISTORY to finance the century project to link the Mediterranean with the Indian Ocea 1858: Ferdinand de Lessep founding the Compagnie universelle du canal de Suez, 1869: Inauguration of the Canal SUEZ 1880: Lyonnaise des Eaux established 1919: SITA is set up in Paris to meet the city's waste collection needs 1939: Establishment of Degrémont in Paris, a water treatment company 1975: First desalination plant utilising reverse osmosis in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia 1997: Lyonnaise des Eaux merges with Compagnie financière de Suez, creating Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux 2002: SUEZ's environmental operations are grouped under one branch 2008: SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT initial public offering 2015: 40 subsidiary brands of the group (Degremont, SITA ) become one: SUEZ 5 I

21 AVALANCHE SCREEN: An innovation from SUEZ AMETYST MONTPELLIER VERNEA CLERMONT FERRAND Avalanche screen innovation has allowed simultaneously on Ametyst plant : 1/ Huge increase of compost production: 500 tons in tons in tons awaited in 2017 and up to tons at full capacity 2/ significant increase of compost physical quality (glass, plastic content) with systematic compliance to the french quality standard U44051 and new important compost sellings on Montpellier near by wine yards (unique current reference for MSW compost in France) 3/ adaptation to harder future regulations through possible use of finer meshes on Avalanche screens 21 I 2017 Forum on food waste 14 th September 2017
22 AMETYST: A Plant improved by SUEZ First years of Ametyst operation very problematic due to the originality of the process and to the size of this «prototype» plant! numerous mechanical bottlenecks AMETYST MONTPELLIER Necessity for Suez to modify the initial AD process operation way in order to : 1/ increase the DM content of the digestate and be able to stop dewatering press use 2/ stabilise and increase Methane production through receipt modifications of the mix introduced in the digesters ( first patent filling done in 2012) All these process modifications and improvements has been made possible with help of R&D support Suez: - Waste characterisation (including CH4 potential measurements) VERNEA CLERMONT FERRAND - AD industrial process simulation Digestate DM > 30% - Development and use of a modelling tool especially for the start up of new digesters Waste water production CH4 production AD process stabilisation 22 I 2017 Forum on food waste 14 th September 2017

26 New development with Surrey and Hong Kong Plants 1/ On the 2 plants : New waste Quality not known yet Commissionning phase will be determinant for adjusting the mechanical pre-treatment to delivered waste quality and optimising the Biogas production 2/ Especially on HK plant : first AD plant to be built and operated on a very small area with important constraints regarding odour management, waste water quantities and power guarantee 26 I 2017 Forum on food waste 14 th September 2017
