7 Local Climate Protection in Magdeburg - agreements on targets The agreements on targets include CO 2 reduction goals and measures to realise these goals. The agreements on targets are based on voluntary action, responsibility and cooperation. The Energy and Climate Protection Programme of Magdeburg ist the basis for these agreements. 7

9 climate alliance The Climate Alliance of the City of Magdeburg is a network of the local economy and business-related institutions, for example chambers, trade associations etc. Major aim: integration of the local economy in the local climate protection activities. Common development of measures and implementation strategies with the local administration and players from science and reasearch. The alliance partner shall commit themselves to the local climate reduction goals and express their willingness to cooperate. Date of establishment: 2012, July 25. 9

11 competition Energieeffiziente Stadt MD-E 4 Since 2008: participation in the BMBF-competition Energieeffiziente Stadt with the joint project Magdeburg: EnergieEffiziente Stadt Modellstadt für Erneuerbare Energien (MD -E 4 ) ( Magdeburg: EnergyEfficent City Model City for Renewable Energy ). MD E 4 -vision 2020: The vision is to reduce the CO 2 -emissions by more than 67 % (baseline 1990) and to reduce the final energy consumption by at least 20 % (baseline 2007). 2010: City of Magdeburg as one of the five winners of the contest ( project partners receive BMBF funding amounting to EURO per year until 2016). project partners : 11
12 competition Energieeffiziente Stadt MD-E 4 creation of an enviromental traffic management centre (OvGU and ifak e.v.); establishment of an urban hub (IFF); continual preparation of the CO 2 -balance of Magdeburg (MD); information as ressource for energy efficiency: 1. development and implementation of an energy-geographic-informationsystem, 2. establishment of a material flow management in Magdeburg, 3. promotion of new technology for the housing stock and innovative thermal insulation (HS MD/SDL); pilot project combined heating and power station (KWK) (IFF); support of the quality and efficiency of the electricity distribution networks by automated secondary substations and load management (OvGU, ifak e.v. and sub-contractors); development and creation of a controlling system (OvGU); establishment of a coordination office / office for energy efficiency (MD and sub-contractors); encourement of energy saving behaviour of private households and accompanying research in environmental psychology (OvGU); establishment of a Science Center for Renewable Energy (MD and sub-contractors); development of the technical conditions for the installation of an icy soil storage for cold and heat storage by geothermal energy (MD and sub-contractors) 12
