2 U.S.- India State and Urban Ini/a/ve Purpose: To expand U.S.- India energy coopera4on by strengthening direct engagement with India s powerful states. promo.ng energy security and energy sector reform through direct engagement between U.S. and Indian subna.onal en..es; by establishing close, sustainable working rela.onships between Indian subna.onal officials, their U.S. counterparts, research ins.tu.ons, civil society organiza.ons working in the areas of governance and renewable energy, and the private sector.

3 India s Key Power Projects 24 x 7 Power for All Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (UDAY) 175 GW of Renewable Energy by 2022 Objec&ve: to supply 24x7 quality, reliable and affordable power to all domes.c, commercial and industrial consumers by Ac.ons taken under the ini.a.ve include: Objec&ve: to improve the financial health of state distribu.on companies (DISCOMs) through four ini.a.ves: Objec&ve: The BJP- led government has revised the country s renewable energy targets and aims to install 175 GW by Distribu.on of na.onal target: 1) village electrifica.on 2) providing access to households 3) feeder separa.on 4) strengthening of sub- transmission and distribu.on network and 5) roll out of meters 1) improving opera.onal efficiencies; 2) reduc.on of cost of power; 3) reduc.on in interest cost of DISCOMs; and 4) enforcing financial discipline on DISCOMs through alignment with State finances. 1) Solar: 100 GW 2) Wind: 60 GW 3) Biomass: 10 GW 4) Small Hydro: 5 GW

7 Rajasthan Status of Projects Power for All: 75% UDAY: 23.61% State Energy Needs Renewable energy integra.on into the grid/ thermal power plant flexibility and management of DISCOMs is a key focus of the state Need to demonstrate storage pilot Technologies that can help clean high- Sulphur content coal to be able to u.lize stranded assets Need to understand what to do with surplus power, par.cularly solar build- up (how to store, how to export, addi.onal ver.cals for the DISCOMs) Research opportuni.es with IIT Jodhpur on solar; state is also hotbed of off- grid/energy access technology deployment
