The disbursement rate is 40% and this is expected to be 65% by Mid Term Review (MTR). Most of the technical and safeguards studies have been completed. These studies covers civil works associated with the drainage channels, and the Fifadji Bridge, and the contracts are about to be signed with the selected firms Page 1 of 7

2 and it is expected that civil works will commence in the first quarter of 2014.The studies (technical and safeguards) for the construction of solid wastes collection points and transfer stations are ongoing. Currently civil works on the opening of a new cell at the Ouesse landfill site and the paving of the road leading to the landfill site are ongoing, after the clearance of the safeguards documents (ESIA and Environmental audits) by the Regional Safeguards Adviser. The Technical Assistance for improved wastewater management has been in place since Febuary 28, It is this assistance that will assist Government define guidelines and standards for municipal wastewater discharge. It will also assist Government establish an effective regulatory structure for municipal wastewater treatment services and develop an M&E system for the implementation of master plans for municipal sanitation. The technical assistance and the executing agency (AGETUR) have just finalized the recruitment of the consultants that will prepare the wastewater master plans for Cotonou and Porto Novo; and are in the process of selecting sites for the sanitation and wastewater pilots. In ensuring compliance with the Financing Agreement, the following municipalities have paid their counterpart contribution: Ouidah, Abomey-Calavi and Seme-Kpodji. The funds for Cotonou and Porto Novo have been approved, but not paid to the project accounts due to treasury problems. The project reacted to the 2013 flood alert at karimana and malanville by recruiting an NGO to work with the national agency of civil protection in order to sensitize the population on flood management and the sanitation practices during floods.
