5 Citizen Science Defined by Wikipedia: scientific work undertaken by members of the general public, often in collaboration with or under the direction of professional scientists and scientific institutions.

6 Citizen Science Opportunities First Flush: Tests rainfall runoff of the first rain of the fall season Urban Watch: Monitors water quality during the dry summer months Snapshot Day: Monitors sites in 4 counties on the 1 st Saturday of May each year: Saturday, May 2, 2015 ALBA Carneros Creek: Assessment of organic farming practices & wetland restoration Volunteers testing water during First Flush

7 Monitoring Test storm drains and stream sites for the following: Detergents Nitrate, phosphate, ammonia, urea Metals: Copper, Lead, Zinc Chlorine ph Dissolved oxygen Bacteria indicators Oil sheen Odor & color Volunteers with testing kits
