(SES) to perform the Asbestos Survey at the UAA-SSB Building s on the 1 st & 3 rd floor along with the VAV Box in Room 250 located at 3211 Providence Dr Anchorage, AK This survey was necessitated due to the future renovation and/or demolition in this location. The purpose of this asbestos assessment was to identify, establish, and evaluate the existence of Suspected Asbestos Containing Building Materials (SACBM) present in this location prior to renovation. UAA s & Room 250 is located at 3211 Providence Drive, Anchorage, Alaska Ms. Baum can be contacted at (907) , while can be sent to pgarcia@uaa.alaska.edu. The inspection and sampling was conducted on June 5, 2007 with additional sampling on June 22, 2007 by Joe Torrijos, one of SES Certified AHERA Inspectors & Management Planners. Ms. Baum provided SES access to this facility in order to survey and sample for asbestos. Photo references were also provided for sampling reference. Twenty one (21) representative samples of pipes, elbows, tape insulations, plaster and sheetrock were collected in this location. The results showed that there was no detectable asbestos present in this location. Appendix A presents the analytical sample results of the samples. Appendix B presents the photo references. 2.0 INTRODUCTION On May 3, 2007 Ms. Baum of UAA contacted SES to perform asbestos survey and collection located at the s of UAA. The objective of this survey was to identify the SACBM in the s of this facility. 4 Solar Environmental Services, Inc Meadow Street Phone: (907) Anchorage, AK Fax: (907) Home Page: SCOPE OF WORK The SES walkthrough assessment was limited to a visual inspection of the readily accessible portions of the s & Room 205 of the UAA building. A more detailed record of the types of samples SES collected along with a description of the areas is expounded upon in Section 4.0. SES conducted the visual inspections of the pipe insulations, elbow, plaster and sheetrock of the s & Room 205 of UAA facility. 4.0 METHODS The representative bulk samples SES collected during this inspection and assessment of UAA s were analyzed by EMSL Analytical, Inc. using Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) EPA Method 600R-93/116. For a complete description of the PLM method, please refer to EPA Method 600R-93/116 and Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 763, Appendix A to Subpart F, Section I. EMSL is a NVLAP accredited laboratory to perform asbestos analysis. 5.0 RESULTS AND DISCUSSION SES collected a total of 21 bulk asbestos samples. Photos were provided for reference. The following table is a summary of the air and bulk samples collected during this assessment, their locations, and their results. For a more complete description of samples, please reference Appendix A for sample results. 8 Solar Environmental Services, Inc Meadow Street Phone: (907) Anchorage, AK Fax: (907) Home Page: CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS SES asbestos survey of the UAA s (1 st floor, 3 rd floor, & Room 205) indicated that the results of the representative samples were found no detectable level of asbestos. Therefore, there is no further action required to renovate or demolish the materials surveyed for asbestos. The Conclusions and Recommendations presented in this report are based on prevailing site conditions during the SES sample collection period. SES s sampling was limited in its scope to the accessible portion of the mechanical rooms (1 st floor, 3 rd floor, and Room 205) of the UAA facility and materials that were readily apparent at the time of the collection in this area. The inspectors did not demolish walls, chases, or any other building spaces while performing this assessment. We appreciate the opportunity to perform these services.
