The HESfp-12 is able to power emergency lights, elevators, safety and fire management systems as well as other systems, for 6 hours at 90 kw. The fueling dispenser was designed by Stuart Energy. The HESfp-12 can fuel a small fleet of vehicles at the current industry standard pressures,,600 and 5,000 psi. Toyota Hydrogen Energy Station ( present) Stuart Energy was chosen by Toyota to provide hydrogen infrastructure at its headquarters in Torrance, California. Toyota purchased a Stuart Energy Hydrogen Energy Station for vehicle fueling (HESf-12). The HESf provides hydrogen fuel for Toyota s fuel cell vehicle fleet and is intended to support Toyota s fuel-cell community program. This program is significant because it involves the real-world demonstration of hydrogen fueling infrastructure along with hydrogen-powered vehicles. Like all HES products, the HESf-12 is able to add power generation capabilities in the future.
California Fuel Cell Partnership Satellite Hydrogen Energy Station ( present) The California Fuel Cell Partnership chose Stuart Energy to provide the first satellite Hydrogen Energy Station for vehicle fueling. In cooperation with AC Transit in Richmond, California, this station provides vehicles of the Partnership with high-purity hydrogen fuel dispensed at,600 and 5,000 psi. The HESf-12 is capable of generating 12 Nm h of hydrogen (25 kg of hydrogen per day), which is sufficient to supply the fueling needs of a small fleet of hydrogen-powered vehicles. Like all HES products, the HESf-12 is able to add power generation capabilities in the future. Ford Motor Company ( present) A Mobile Hydrogen Energy Station for vehicle fueling (Mobile HESf-12) is stationed at Ford's Arizona Proving Grounds, and supplies clean hydrogen fuel to support testing of the new Focus FCV and other Ford hydrogen-fueled vehicles. The Mobile HESf-12 is a unique hydrogen infrastructure solution, developed by Stuart Energy, which integrates hydrogen generation, storage, and dual pressure (,600 psi & 5,000 psi) dispensing all mounted on a single trailer. This packaged system enables hydrogen fuel to be truly available anytime, anywhere. The Mobile HESf-12 can provide fuel for a small fleet of hydrogen-powered vehicles.
B.C. Hydro-Powertech Labs ( present) Stuart Energy delivered a Hydrogen Energy Station for vehicle fueling (HESf-12) to B.C. Hydro's Powertech Labs facility in Surrey, B.C. Stuart Energy and B.C. Hydro are demonstrating the benefits of electrolytic hydrogen as a preferred vehicle fuel. In addition to pure hydrogen, this HESf also provides a blend of hydrogen with natural gas to fuel Powertech vehicles. The station produces hydrogen that is also used to test various vehicles systems and components enabling the development of new and improved vehicle technology. SunLine Transit ( present) SunLine Transit Agency is operating a Stuart Energy Hydrogen Energy Station for vehicle fueling (HESf-12) that dispenses both pure hydrogen as well as a blend of hydrogen and natural gas. SunLine Transit operates hydrogenpowered fuel cell buses and several other vehicles. The HESf at SunLine is also available to public hydrogen vehicles and members of the California Fuel Cell Partnership.
Upcoming Hydrogen Energy Stations: Hong Kong In late-200, along with project partner Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Limited, Stuart Energy will install and commission a Hydrogen Energy Station for vehicle fueling and power generation (HESfp-12) at a building in Hong Kong. This HESfp-12 will provide the back-up power needs of the building in the event of a grid power disruption, ensuring that the building s safety and other critical systems are operational. The system is designed to supply power for a minimum of 6 hours at 240 kw using clean hydrogen power. The HESfp-12 will also supply clean hydrogen fuel for a bus to be operated in Hong Kong. AQMD In early-2004 Stuart Energy will deliver an HESfp-12 to the South Coast California Air Quality Management District (AQMD) in Diamond Bar, California. The HESfp-12 will be capable of supplying clean hydrogen fuel at 50 bar to a small fleet of vehicles. The dispenser features a fleet management system enabling the customer to monitor individual vehicle fueling profiles. AQMD will also evaluate and demonstrate clean hydrogen-based power applications such as peak shaving and back-up power. A History in Hydrogen Stuart Energy, Coast Mountain Transit, B.C. Hydro, Ballard Power Systems, and Natural Resources Canada undertook one of the first cooperative hydrogen fuel projects in Canada. Using a Stuart Energy hydrogen fueling station, three Ballard hydrogen fuel cell buses went into regular service in the city of Vancouver. The station produced 6 kg per hours of fuel cell grade hydrogen. Over a period of two years, Stuart Energy fueled a fleet of hydrogen vehicles at Xerox's site in El Segundo, California, using hydrogen produced from solar power. This was a zeroemission project where the full energy cycle was carbon-free and renewable. The knowledge gained from this vehicle fueling demonstration helped establish the direction of Stuart Energy's nextgeneration technology development program. In 1994, Stuart Energy provided the hydrogen fuel and gas mixing system for a fueling station at STCUM (Montreal Transit Company), which used a blend of hydrogen and natural gas. The fueling station supported two Hythane buses in revenue service and operated at 100% reliability for the duration of the project. Earlier In 1994, Stuart Energy supported Mazda s Hydrogen Vehicle Tour providing the fuel for their hydrogen Miata sports car, which used a metal hydride storage system. In 199, Stuart Energy commissioned the first solar powered hydrogen fueling station at the University of California Riverside. The station supported a number of hydrogen-powered developmental vehicles. In 198, Stuart Energy developed and fueled a hydrogen-powered farm tractor and showcased it at the World Hydrogen Energy Conference in Toronto in The tractor used a metal hydride gas storage system. Stuart Energy fueled its first prototype hydrogen vehicle in 1980 at the University of Toronto, Department of Physics.
The Hydrogen Evolution Concern for the environment, air quality, and energy security has moved to the forefront of public opinion and policy. New government regulations regarding vehicle emissions reflect a new green awareness and the need to reduce vehicle pollutants in urban environments. Energy self-sufficiency promises to improve domestic economies, employment and trade opportunities. Hydrogen is the cleanest fuel available and through the Stuart Energy method can be produced on a distributed basis using just water and electricity. Hydrogen is the next step in the evolution of how energy is sourced, used and distributed.
