Is the Canada s Pla8orm for DRR thinking about how to be^er measure success: Could research projects adopt Public Safety Canada s official list of hazard risk indicators to support the tracking and evalua7on of project effec7veness?

Standards, Terms, Protocols Intergovernmental Geoscience Accord United Na7ons Interna7onal Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduc7on (UNISDR) list of risk indicators and official glossary IRDR Disaster Loss Data (DATA) peril classifica7ons and hazard defini7ons Environment Canada and Health Canada Priority Substance List Principles: Acknowledge the structure and ecosystem, and the dynamic processes of science advice Establish a hazard risk research program to remain posed at the fron7er of informa7on technology Reach out to provincial stakeholders to understand stakeholders science needs and to provide high impact advice Use foresight to replace the current ad hoc hazard risk science advice for policy by hazard risk specialists in each province. Such foresight should be structured around the science informa7on needs of the phases in the Disaster Lifecycle Model (preparedness, preven7on, mi7ga7on, response and recovery) Focus: preven7on + preparedness? Mandate: provide natural and social science informa7on to contribute to the reduc7on of future losses from natural hazard events?

Research Platform Federal funding to support coordination and interaction with academics, federal agencies, discuss logistics of high priority topics? Specific research/thematic working groups academic and research leaders providing scientific quality assurance of advice (i.e. Resilience, Indigenous People, Industry/Private Sector, Geoscience/Climate Change)? Communication and dissemination - Scoping papers, Reports, Fact sheets, conclusions, recommendations/ advice to stakeholders - Ministries, municipalities? Events workshops, open house?
