How big is Wellington s problem? American Water Works Assoc. estimates $250 billion over next 30 years (Marlow & Burns 2008). Severn Trent Water one of the 10 UK water organisations has: 45,000 km of water mains & 53,000 km of sewers. (Hammond & Jones 2000). Wellington City has less than 200,000 residents. But nearly 50% of the rates income is spent on water. Average rates $ 2,243, of which - water $1,053 (Dominion Post 14 July 2012)

The Wellington Asset Problem WCC Assets $6.1 bn P&G, Housing $2.1bn - Confirm 3 Waters $2.2bn - InfoNet Roading $1.8bn - RAMM

Business Process Issues No single source of data Unstable link between ArcSDE and Confirm Inability to directly import electronic files Duplication of manual data entry Inability to import, extract and report on existing data in current systems No intelligence or automation Connectivity/Topology rules not enforced Poor 3D capability Revision of current data model required

Needing a single source of the truth

Solution? RFP to find a solution that could... Develop a single complete dataset, holding all attribute data and represent all assets spatially.

Project Guidelines RFP must haves Adopt standards D Spec Use industry best practice Standard COTS software Copy and co-operate with others Don t invent a wheel!
