1 Internship Role Profile On-Site & Digital Marketing intern Overview of the role The On-site & Digital Marketing internship at Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal is a great first step to getting your career in marketing and communications underway. You ll be helping to develop marketing materials, supporting on digital marketing and social media and getting involved in every aspect of what we do. You ll also be getting to grips with time management, prioritising and managing your workload and other essential office skills, here in our busy estate office. You ll be working on projects to promote our Summer and Autumn programme of events, tours, workshops, art programme and family activities here on site, as well as getting hands-on with the day-to-day running of the department. Recently we ve completed a project to develop our own visual language for Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. You ll be integral to the roll out of this, which is a new style guide for the property. You ll experience the delivery, planning and co-ordinating of marketing and communications plans, growing and developing new skills to really enhance your CV by the end of the internship. You ll see how your work fits into wider business objectives and there is also the potential to become involved with other teams to support your own career interests and help to fulfil the aims of your internship here. Our marketing strategy is key to the success of our work, you ll see how we deliver, plan and co-ordinate it and use the same approach to your projects.

2 You ll be part of a busy team, playing an integral role. You re projects are real parts of what we do and you ll learn the practical basics, as well as the theory, so you can put it all into practice. Transferrable skills are essential to career development. Working in a busy team you ll learn quickly about the importance of interpersonal and communication skills which will be a real asset in your future career. Learning through practical experience means you ll leave with examples of your work to show prospective employers, improving your career prospects. We ll supply you with a learner s logbook and full induction so that you can get the most out of your internship and leave having fulfilled your objectives. What s involved? Your projects: Social media, including facebook and twitter are important channels for reaching our audiences. Working with the marketing assistant you will develop a schedule for our social media channels including behind the scenes, conservation messages and event promotion. Our new website launched last autumn and we re keen to maximise the potential of this improved channel of communication. You ll be initiating and developing new content for key sections of the website as well as being responsible for the what s on section, making sure information is loaded on time and displayed accurately. On-site promotion and presentation standards are really important to our business in communicating our events, tours and activities to all our visitors, ensuring messaging is on brand and using our tone of voice. With training and guidance from the team you ll create, plan and deliver a range of on-site promotional materials in line with brand and visual language guidelines. Evaluation is an essential part of any marketing plan as it forms the basis for future planning, as one of your projects, you ll be developing evaluation and measures of success to put your findings to good use to improve future activity. In addition to key projects you ll work closely with the Marketing Assistant on a range of PR, promotion and communications tasks to get experience of the full marketing mix, and you ll attend weekly meetings with the VE and Marketing Team to get an insight into the way the team works. Throughout your placement you ll also gain knowledge of and practical experience in helping to deliver departmental and property strategic aims. General Requirements These are applicable to all office and wider estate roles they include:

4 Training Resources Accommodation Expenses As part of your induction you will receive training to help equip you for your role. Throughout your internship you will have the opportunity to develop your skills, and review your personal development with your line manager. You will also have the opportunity to find out more about the National Trust during your time with us. Estate handbook, name badge, branded estate clothing (department polo shirt). Is available on the estate in a shared cottage (the estate is approx. 4 miles from Ripon) for the duration of your placement should you require it. Cycles are available and you can check bus services at and Out-of-pocket travel costs arising directly from your voluntary role here and other reasonable expenses agreed in advance. Daily lunch allowance. What is a National Trust Internship? This is an opportunity for people looking to gain work experience across different areas of work within the Trust. The internship will be attached to a particular project or area of work, and will give you the opportunity to develop your skills and experience in this area. About the National Trust The National Trust is a registered charity and is completely independent of Government. We rely for income on membership fees, donations and legacies, and money raised from our commercial operations. We protect and open to the public over 300 historic houses and gardens and 49 industrial monuments and mills. But it doesn t stop there. We also look after forests, woods, fens, beaches, farmland, downs, moorland, islands, archaeological remains, castles, nature reserves, villages for places, for ever, for everyone. About Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal is a designated World Heritage Site. Almost 900 years of human history, architecture and artistic endeavour has been integrated into a continuous landscape of exceptional merit and beauty. Studley Royal Water Garden is arguably the most spectacular water garden in

5 England It is an outstanding example of the development of English garden style through the 18 th century. The garden contains canals, ponds, cascades, lawns and hedges, with elegant temples and statues. The design of the garden, which survives substantially in its original form, is determined by the topography of the natural landscape, rather than being imposed upon it. Fountains Abbey is a key element in the garden scheme providing a spectacular culmination to the principal vista, but is also of outstanding importance in its own right. It is one of the few Cistercian houses surviving from the 12 th century and provides an unrivalled picture of a great religious house in all its parts. Fountains Abbey, founded in 1132, soon became one of the largest and richest Cistercian abbeys in Britain. The Abbey shares the landscape with Fountains Hall ( ): an outstanding example of a building of its period, partially built with stone from the Abbey. It has a distinctive Elizabethan style façade and is enhanced by a formal garden with shaped hedges. St. Mary s Church: an outstanding example of High Victorian Gothic architecture by one of its leading exponents, William Burges, in 1871, and considered to be one of his finest works. Each important in their own right, these elements combine to make this a truly exceptional site deserving to be internationally recognised.
