1 Vocational Graduate Certificate in Agribusiness AMPC Meat Industry Leadership Development Program What is the Graduate Certificate of Agribusiness? The Graduate Certificate of Agribusiness is a post-graduate vocational qualification developed for senior managers of AgriFood industries. This means that it aims to create a similar depth and breadth of skills and knowledge as a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) but it is focused on the challenges specific to businesses in the AgriFood Industries. As a postgraduate qualification, the learning will be research based, however as it is delivered as a vocational, rather than a tertiary qualification the research you undertake will be directly relevant to your business. Who is the Graduate Certificate of Agribusiness for? The Graduate Certificate of Agribusiness is for senior managers and those on a career pathway in the industry to senior management positions. It is designed for managers leading small to medium sized businesses or significant units of activity in a large organisation. If you work in one of the following industries, this program will be highly relevant to you: meat processing primary producers food processing viticulture seafood agriculture. The roles the program will be relevant to include: CEOs General Managers Operations Managers Production Managers Divisional Managers.

2 What is included in the training? The program will commence with a two day research skills workshop. There will then be four assessable units of competency: MSS407006A Build relationships between teams in an operations environment MTMBUS702A Provide strategic leadership MSS407001A Prepare for and implement change MTMBUS706A Commercialise research and technology product/idea MSS407006A Build relationships between teams in an operations environment This unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required to develop an attitude of respect for individuals in teams and trust between individuals, teams, supervisors and management in order to develop a suitable culture for implementing and sustaining competitive systems and practices initiatives. It is intended for team leaders and people with a similar sphere of influence/scope of authority and responsibility. It builds on more general competitive systems and practices graduate units and specifically addresses inter-team issues. The unit also encompasses dealing with intra-team issues where these can be a barrier for successful team relationships. The unit envisages a specialist facilitation role in assisting with implementing an organisation competitive systems and practices culture. It is also about developing a whole of value stream view so that there is not competition between individuals or teams, but rather cooperation to achieve organisation and value stream goals with competition being directed towards other organisations competing in the marketplace. MTMBUS702A Provide strategic leadership This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to analyse and improve personal leadership style and professional competence, and to lead organisational strategic development and deployment. It also covers leading transformational practices, cultivating collaborative practices, and providing strategic leadership in a dynamic context. The unit reflects the role of individuals who apply substantial specialised knowledge and skills to the managerial role in an organisation or business area. In these roles they make significant high-level independent judgements in major planning, research, design, operational, compliance and management functions within highly varied or specialised agribusiness contexts. MSS407001A Prepare for and implement change This unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required to establish the pre-conditions for the implementation of a change, such as a step change or a change resulting from a problem solving exercise. The unit can be applied to subsections of an organisation, such as a team, area or department, or a small or medium sized enterprise (SME). It is intended for team leaders and people with a similar sphere of influence/scope of authority and responsibility. It applies to individuals who are already familiar with change leadership in a competitive systems and practices environment through either previous study or industry experience. Skills covered by this unit are applied in an organisation after a desired change has already been identified.

3 MTMBUS706A Commercialise research and technology product/idea This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to undertake the fundamentals of commercialisation of a product/idea from the initial concept to the launching of the product/idea (or innovation) and then to full production. Competency requires developing the skills and knowledge to successfully research, analyse, cost and develop a business opportunity for a product/idea. The skill to manage the commercialisation as well as evaluate the success or otherwise of the process is also required. This unit applies to leaders or managers responsible for the development of a commercialisation strategy for an innovative product or technique which has been developed through research. Leaders undertaking product commercialisation will investigate and negotiate the legal and partnership implications of commercialisation, undertake market testing and develop the commercialisation strategy. How is the program delivered? We know how busy managers are in our industry. We know you are often based in regional or remote locations and that weekly lectures would be impossible. We also know that much of what you gain from this kind of training is from discussions with other people in the program and networking opportunities. Training delivery The Graduate Certificate of Agribusiness is delivered in a series of face-to-face two or three day workshops over 13 months. This method has been tried and tested with participants in the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Meat Processing and has been deemed the best delivery method for our cohort of students. You will be required to attend a two day research skills workshop at the start of the program. The remaining units will be delivered in two 3-day blocks each. This means you will be required to attend a total of 26 days of training across the program. 4 The location of the workshops will be dependent on where participants are from. Usually, we like to mix it up a little, with each unit being delivered in a different city. This evens out the travel costs for all participants and also provides the opportunity to see a different city, and sometimes to visit some of the participants workplaces. Coaching/Mentoring Your facilitators will be available for one-to-one mentoring and coaching where necessary. This usually takes place over the phone, or when possible, face-to-face at a participant s workplace. Assessments You will be required to undertake additional readings and research outside the workshops. Your assessments will involve projects that are relevant to your business needs. So any assessment tasks you complete for the program will not be purely academic activities, but will provide benefits to your business. Unlike university programs, there are second chances on assessments. Vocational Education and Training programs do not issue pass/fail results. You will achieve either a competent or not yet competent result. Should you be deemed not yet competent, you will be asked to provide more information, or redo aspects of your assessment until your assessor determines that you have achieved competency. What do you get at the end of the program? Once you are deemed competent, you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the unit. When you have successfully completed all four units, you will be able to graduate and receive a Graduate Certificate in Agribusiness. If you cannot complete all four units, you will still receive statements of attainment for the units you have completed. Should you return to complete this, or another vocational graduate certificate at a later stage, you may be able to use your statements of attainment for credit towards completion of the new program. Wendy Hall: Wendy s key role is the management of projects and client relationships during the development and delivery of programs. She works with clients to design the right organisational development strategies to close a business gap or develop the organisation through change. Wendy facilitates and consults on engagement strategies, people development, safety, and leadership programs to diverse organisations.

5 Andrew Moore: Andrew s interests lie in facilitating the development of organisations and the people who lead them. He has applied highly developed facilitation, coaching and developmental skills across numerous industries, including mining, meat processing, logistics and energy. Andrew has an engaging style and builds rapport at all levels of organisations. Sarah Pearce: Sarah has experience working in a broad range of industries including agribusiness, mining, health, education, heavy haulage and tourism. She has worked in private industry, government and notfor-profits designing and delivering leadership development interventions, delivering training, conducting cultural reviews, and developing and implementing site wide change management and communication strategies. Sarah has completed a Masters in Organisational Psychology and uses an evidence-based practice model to design and implement strategies which improve performance, increase productivity and lead to wider engagement in the workforce. Response will also partner with academics from University of Southern Queensland and industry experts to ensure you are exposed to the most current research and thinking in Australia. Rod Glass: Vice Chancellor s Research Fellow, Australian Centre for Sustainable Business and Development, University of Southern Queensland. What will it cost? Total cost of the program is $14,000 per participant. (Note: This does not include accommodation and travel expenses to attend workshops.) Red meat processing company employees may be eligible to apply for an AMPC funded position to fund up to 50% of the program costs. This costing may be flexible and the level of AMPC funded support may increase/decrease depending on the level of participation. Candidates can apply for these funded positions by completing the application form (this will be sent out in the coming weeks). Candidates will be selected by an industry panel agreed between AMPC and MINTRAC. If you are from another industry, you may be eligible for other scholarships.
