3 Program Overview Week 1: Strategic Leadership Cultivate Your Career The Emerging Leaders Program is a unique leadership opportunity built to support you. Learn skills to take more effective action, build the practices of an authentic leader, and begin fully reaching your potential. The program includes a unique curriculum in an all-encompassing learning experience. You will receive six executive/leadership coaching sessions throughout the program to support your learning and development. Emerging Leaders Program Includes: Nine days of face-to-face trainings that are divided into three topics: Strategic Leadership Building Leadership Presence The Practice of Leadership Six executive/leadership coaching sessions (two for each event) with program trainers. Classrooms limited to 25 students to provide Individualized attention from trainers and ensure the success of everyone in the program. An opportunity to present your final project to your peers and colleagues at the 2013 Northwest Credit Union Association Convention and Annual Business Meeting. March 26 28, 2013 During the first week of the emerging leaders program you will define your leadership values and objectives and hone in on what kind of leader you want to be. You will then acquire skills to build a strategic plan for leadership. In the first week you will: Focus on your personal definition of leadership, your leadership strengths and what you see as your potential. Learn valuable leadership models on the cycle of change and how to overcome the inevitable thresholds every credit union leader faces. Identify core issues before developing strategies and initiatives to improve workplace efficiency and effectiveness. Develop an understanding of your own ability to collaborate, listen and engage others. Learn techniques for having that sticky conversation when people are not fulfilling objectives. Understand and distinguish between different types of leaders, stages of leadership development and how organizational culture influences success. 4 Week 2: Building a Leadership Presence Week 3: The Practice of Leadership June 18 20, 2013 Building upon the first week where you defined your core leadership beliefs, this week will dive into developing a leadership presence. Learn the tools needed to effectively communicate and anticipate obstacles to keep strategic objectives moving in the right direction. In the second week you will: Learn about the six basic speech acts. Practice identifying the various acts and how they contribute effectively or ineffectively to success. Learn to use feedback effectively to manage fear & uncertainty in key moments. Turn observation into action by making crisp observations of progress and using that to effectively build a new future. Practice effective models to appeal to and influence constituents. Observe various energy levels, moods and interactions and how ones presence affects trust, engagement and followship. Practice how to integrate a strong presence in ways that remain inviting and blend with other stakeholders. Learn to navigate through external environment challenges with an enduring and rooted presence to sustain success through resistance. Sept , 2013 The third and final week will pull together everything that you have learned thus far, and ties together the final pieces of how to put into practice what you have learned. You will also be able to present your leadership project to your peers and receive immediate verbal feedback for use in your ongoing development. In the third week you will: Recognize organizational practices such as how conversations are held, how you present yourself in meetings, and how to get your team organized, set up for success and in support of your leadership commitment. Present your leadership project to your peers. Your CEO, teams, and other members of your organization are invited to this segment of the program, which represents the culmination of the year s work, of what you have learned and how you are practically applying your new knowledge to your organization and community. You will receive immediate verbal feedback and a written assessment to use in your ongoing development. 5 About the Trainers Susan Geear, Executive Coach Susan Geear is an international coach, consultant and social justice advocate, committed to partnering with leaders to support personal, social and organizational change. She works with multinational corporations, financial institutions, non-profits and NGO s fostering a commitment to global citizenship, social consciousness and personal responsibility. Her clientele spans more than 32 countries, which has given her the opportunity to travel and experience the diversity of cultures and traditions of Eastern Africa, Istanbul, Dubai and Cebu. This rich cultural awareness supports her ability to bridge global communities by cultivating new pathways toward understanding and compassion. Mark Haeussler, President Mark Haeussler, president of DDJ Myers Advancing Leadership Institute, is a creative and resourceful executive coach who inspires teams to bring together their best talents, values and vision to unify resources in achieving strategic initiatives with fewer breakdowns and more fulfillment. Mark brings his own success as a CEO of a 150-person enterprise, along with remote operation and project management background, as a solid ground to reaching business objectives and build sustainable relationships to the coaching partnership. Mark develops the unique intellectual materials for the Advancing Leadership Institute, providing clients with practical entries to build greater success, including managing change, moving effectively through dialogue, building new competencies and adapting leadership presences to shifting needs. Deedee Myers, Founder and CEO Deedee Myers is founder and CEO of DDJ Myers, Ltd. and cofounder of the Advancing Leadership Institute. For the past 20 years she has been passionate about establishing and developing humans to thrive in any economic environment. During the past several years her Succession Planning and Leadership Development offer has been highly regarded as both innovative and a model of best practices. Through the Advancing Leadership Institute, Deedee works with executives and managers so they live out their potential and, in doing so, show up as a more valuable offer to their organization and community. Peter Myers, Vice President Peter Myers helps individuals and teams move forward in their personal and organizational goals through recruitment, retention and executive leadership coaching practices. On a daily basis, Peter works with senior management in the financial services industry to build and further develop their leadership and strategic teams by bringing out the true power within themselves and integrating it into the professional and business world. Third generation in this industry, Peter s formal education and somatic coaching certification, combined with his extensive world travels and his exposure to the financial services industry, help him create vision and opportunities for business professionals seeking to reach the next level of success and commitment. Michael Sessions, Senior Vice President, Strategic Organization Services Michael Sessions is an accomplished leader who combines two decades as a senior executive for leading organizations, 11 years of service on various boards, more than a dozen years as a life and executive coach, and doctoral studies in human and organizational development to advance the effectiveness of leaders and organizations. He received the Trail Blazer Award in 2011 from Marathon Health for a progressive wellness program he initiated, and he accepted the National Center for Employee Ownership s Innovation Award in 2007 for a succession and employee development program he designed and implemented. He teaches Leadership in Organizations at the University of Vermont s graduate school of business and is a frequent presenter at local and national conferences on topics such as leadership, succession, employee development and wellness. 7 8

Cancellation & Refund Policy Registrants may cancel by delivering a written notice. Cancellations must be received by the NWCUA no later than 30 days prior to the first class to receive a refund of the registration fees minus a cancellation fee of $1000. Cancellation notices received thereafter shall be subject to the following schedule: Cancellations after the first week will result in a refund of 50% of amounts paid, and cancellations after the second week will result in a refund of 25% of amounts paid. Cancellations after the third week will result in forfeiture of all amounts paid, and only substitutions will be accepted. Scholarships Continued education and training of credit union employees helps keep the credit union movement viable and competitive in the financial marketplace, however we understand that this involves a big time and financial commitment. The Northwest Credit Union Foundation provides professional development scholarships which award up to $1,500 per year for each applicant. You can fill out an application at any time; applications are reviewed on a monthly basis and applicants are notified at the end of the month that they applied in. Based on those scores three finalists with the highest scores will be selected to move on to the public voting stage. Public Voting Opens: Voting will be open to credit union professionals as well as family and friends. Applicants are encouraged to rally their co-workers, peers, as well as friends and family to vote for them.
