It introduces fundamental concepts and models relevant to strategic management, organizational behavior, and decision making. Major emphasis is on the principles and practices of managing as an interpersonal activity. 2. Human Resource Management (BMGT 329/MGMT 403). This subject aims to prepare students to learn to manage people in order to gain a competitive advantage through issues in human resources. This subject is designed for anyone planning to manage; it is not intended as a course to prepare students to be a HR specialist. 3. Leadership & Motivation (BMGT 420). This subject aims focuses on the critical evaluation of leaders in organizations with high involvement work practices and the role of management in identifying future organizational leaders. 5 general leadership challenges, managing motivation dynamics, and the effectiveness of shared leadership. University of Melbourne, Parkville, VIC, Developing Workplace HR Competencies ( ). This subject examines theoretical underpinnings and workplace applications concerning the development of HR competencies. Focus areas include recruitment and selection, training and human resource development, job analysis and key competencies, performance appraisal systems, mentoring and career development issues, and the relationship between these key HR functions and the linkages required for developing HR competencies. Developed and taught the subject for approximately 35 graduate students in 2004 and 30 graduate students in Class enrollment was Human Resource Management ( ). This subject aims to prepare students to learn to manage people in order to gain a competitive advantage through issues in human resources. This subject is designed for anyone planning to manage; it is not intended as a course to prepare students to be a HR specialist. Developed and taught the subject for 1 section of undergraduate students in summer Class enrollment was approximately Contemporary Issues in Human Resource Management ( ). This subject is an introduction to compensation practices and their role in promoting companies competitive advantages. Emphasis is placed on compensation techniques and approaches that are applied to solve human resource problems in business organizations. Topics covered include the context of compensation, types of compensation systems and reward programs, designing compensation systems, employee benefits, and contemporary strategic compensation challenges faced by compensation specialists. Developed and taught the subject for 1 section of graduate students in Class enrollment was Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management ( ). Individual and group conflict is an inevitable aspect of employment. This subject reviews the major causes of conflict in the workplace and its resolution through individual, collective and institutional mechanisms. Students are offered the opportunity to apply dispute resolution techniques to case studies and simulations throughout the semester. Negotiation is the art and science of multi-party decision making under conditions of partially conflicting interests. The central issues of this course deal with understanding the behavior of individuals and groups in the context of such mixed-motive situations. Developed and taught the subject for 24 graduate students in Class enrollment was Organization Dynamics and Leadership ( ). One of the main challenges of HRM is integrating strategy, policy and practice across the individual, organizational, and interorganizational levels. This subject deals with this challenge by examining the interaction of organizational systems and processes across these three levels. The focus on dynamics means a large part of the subject will be devoted to the problems of organizational change and the role of effective leadership in change programs. Each seminar includes lecture and group discussion as well as individual and group activities. Developed and taught the subject for 1 section of graduate students in Class enrollment was 39. Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL, 2000 to Introduction to Organizational Behavior. This course focuses on organizational behavior from the perspectives of theory and practice at three levels within the organization: the individual level, the group or team level, and the organizational level. Emphasis is given to human resources, quality, and result-oriented applications. Developed and taught the course for six sections of undergraduate students. Class enrollment varied from 30 to Introduction to Strategic Management. The primary focus of this course is to expose students to the job of top managers and to provide students with tools for understanding firms as a whole, rather than through a particular functional lens. Case analysis is used in order to learn how to effectively apply the tools, techniques, and concepts that frame the strategic management process. 6 3. Compensation. This course provides students with a solid introduction to compensation practices and the role of compensation in an organization s ability to achieve a competitive advantage. Throughout the course, we investigate the context of compensation practices, criteria used to compensate employees, compensation system design issues, employee benefits, and contemporary issues related to compensation. This seminar was delivered to the Bozeman Business & Professional Women Meeting on April 22, This seminar examined the background and theoretical approaches to pay equity, examined current statistics depicting the gender pay situation at the national and state levels, and drew upon research to make recommendations to address the gender pay gap. 9.
