Employer Engagement & Learner Destinations Employers, Progression and Destinations Presentation to EQAVET Peer Learning Activity September 2016 Presented by Sharon James

Contents Purpose - Our philosophy People How we engage employers How we ensure learners are ready for employment Progression using LMI data and the Impact on Curriculum Performance Progression Case Studies, outcomes and achievements

Purpose- Our Philosophy We work with employers in order to: Inform and enrich our curriculum in order to enhance our learners experience at the college, and to maximise their prospects for progression to employment. Support economic growth in the region by providing relevant training and development for the existing workforce, and by working in partnership to create a sustainable, demandled skills pipeline for the future.

People-How do we achieve this? Consultation We inform our curriculum and training provision by consultation with employers, [e.g. holding sector specific Employer Board events, and generating in-depth Labour Market Intelligence Learner Engagement We provide work placements and other opportunities for learners and employers to interact. We create links that enable learners to progress [ e.g. introducing learners to employers and encouraging employers to recruit from the college ]. Capture Learners aspirations, support and develop career pathways and provide Advice and Guidance to support their career choice. Services We provide training and other services directly to employers [e.g. open and bespoke courses, providing facilities and catering, sponsorship marketing and providing networking opportunities] Contribute We contribute to the future vision and development of the region by early engagement with local influencers [ e.g. active memberships of Cardiff Business Council, board membership at both Enterprise Zones, working with Welsh Government to support Inward Investment etc].

Changing the Face of FE Curriculum Development Embedding your arguments based on facts and the analytic threads adds significant value for: Strategic planning and LMI Understanding the local economy Planning for courses that addresses demand Understanding the key occupations driving the local economy Helps understand the skills needs of those occupations
