1 Portfolio Thank you for taking the time to review my portfolio. It shows both conceptual and finished samples of work I have created recently. The aim is to give you some idea of how I apply creative solutions to meet my clients briefs. Please use the links bar below to navigate the PDF. At the end of the file you will find my contact details. The intellectual property rights of all the work shown here remains with the original owner.

2 Accenture Concept work for a new people-led business magazine aimed at Accenture professionals. Accenture have a very prescriptive and comprehensive set of brand guidelines. AC Creative Solutions enjoys the challenge of coming up with something different using the same toolkit.

3 Alfred McAlpine plc Relaunch and redesign of Alfred McAlpine s group magazine. A shift in focus was required as it is now being used to communicate with customers as well as employees. Packed news section at the front of the book leading into features of two to six pages. AC Creative Solutions provides Alfred McAlpine with a full service from initial planning of an issue right through to distribution.

4 Alfred McAlpine Project Services The Project Services business stream of Alfred McAlpine plc wanted to provide joined-up communication between the three businesses that it is comprised of. Link is a quarterly publication delivered between issues of Insight and brings business developments, news, strategy and achievements to a broad and diverse audience. > GO FORWARD > GO BACK > CONTACT > FULL SCREEN ON/OFF > PRINT

5 Barclays Capital All divisions of Barclays have their own editions of Globe magazine same design but different content. Barclays Capital wanted its own edition to be noticeably different from the other group publications. The brief was for a publication that conformed to brand guidelines and also reflected the high-end international nature of the business.

6 Constructing Excellence Wales Concept work for a new stakeholder publication. Constructing Excellence Wales works to encourage best practice, partnership, integration and collaboration in the delivery of the Welsh built environment. It is an autonomous regional body and is part of the national Constructing Excellence organisation.

7 Frank & Brown Communications consultancy Frank & Brown wanted a brand that would project a no-nonsense image to its clients. Using the dependable, solid square as it s basis, the straight-forwardness is underlined by the typography. The logo will be used in four different and unusual colour combinations to reflect the creative side of Frank & Brown and the range of skills it offers its clients.

8 S1 Graphic Design Marketing and advertising collateral for a company that specialises in servicing developers of high-end urban properties. The briefs also called for copywriting and advertising campaign development. The challenges arose from a very limited supply of imagery and the large amount of information to be included in the ads.

9 Severn Trent Water Cover developments from stages one to four (see key) of the design process for a relaunch of Severn Trent s in-house magazine. The first version was a useful start point as it encouraged the client to try out some approaches she may not otherwise have considered

10 Shell European Oil Products A redesign project for a magazine published in 13 language editions. Each version carried core content plus local content specific to the language it was published in. This produced text of varying lengths which all needed to fit into the same design template. Cultural differences had to be considered as the editorial board was made up of 12 people from across the E.U. This was a year long project, which consisted of five main development stages for design and editorial content.

11 Vibrant Communications Vibrant Communications managing director Jill Wedge is an award-winning corporate communications specialist with a solid track record in tailoring the product to meet the needs of the readers. AC Creative Solutions works with Vibrant to deliver punchy publications that are a real hit with its clients.

12 Wolseley The international supply and distribution company had a workmark, preferred typeface and colour palette but no cohesive visual identity system. A supporting logo was created to represent the global nature of the Wolseley business in a clear graphic style that would be easily accessible to an international audience. The project also called for the outline of a strategy for the application of a new visual identity system across the group.

13 Client testimonial 1: Chris Lee, group company secretary, Alfred McAlpine plc. Alfred McAlpine plc had no hesitation in appointing AC Creative Solutions to project manage the design and production of our corporate magazine, Insight, following Andy Clarke s decision to leave Trident Communications. This was primarily due to the excellent working relationship that had been established between Andy and the Alfred McAlpine team. His creativity was instrumental in the production of a totally new concept for the internal magazine, but along side that, he demonstrated personal commitment to the project that fitted with the positive culture that Alfred McAlpine promotes across its business. This style of approach was a major factor in the success of the redesign and we did not want to lose Andy s input and creativity as the magazine developed. Therefore, it was an easy decision to move away from a major corporate communications specialist because Alfred McAlpine was not losing anything in terms of creativity, personal care, service and commitment. Indeed, if anything, the process and the product has improved with each new edition of the magazine and the production of the magazine has become smoother, faster and more inclusive since it was moved to AC Creative Solutions. The new style magazine is now used not just as a means to communicate corporate messages to employees, but it is distributed to all of the organisation s stakeholders and is used to promote the business as well. This has only happened because of the success of the redesign led by Andy Clarke and the subsequent revisions and improvements recommended by Andy as the magazine developed and feedback and comments were received from focus groups and stakeholders. Before Andy s personal involvement, Insight was just another internal publication. Now, everyone from the senior team to the site workers actually look forward to the next edition.

I have been impressed not only with Andy s design creativity but his positive attitude and calm approach to problem-solving. It s rare that any designer looks at his work as much through the eyes of the reader as the eyes of the client. He is able to come up with cost-effective solutions to creative issues that don t diminish the product and are attractive to the client. Andy has an infectious enthusiasm about what he does. He s a perfectionist and a highly-organised project manager which enables him to present a very persuasive and professional case for improvements or changes he advises a client to make. During the time I worked with him, Andy was responsible for a re-launch of EurOp, the pan-european magazine for Shell's Oil Products staff. He co-ordinated the Trident design team's approach, driving the design and content work forward at a rapid pace. Over the course of the project, he delivered five different creative responses to the brief, resulting in his team winning the competitive tender against another large European agency. The end result was a modern, fresh and appealing format, perfectly aligned with Shell's communications objectives. He is passionate about his work, making him great fun to work with and a real asset as a supplier. Added to this, his input and dedication not only inspired his own team, but gave the Shell team new ideas and convinced them to leave old habits behind.

Andy worked with my team to produce a redesign, set of templates and guidelines which would enable the DTI News in-house team of journalists to design each issue themselves. His research was extremely thorough, and involved spending time with the DTI news team and members of the target audience, to find the most practical, appropriate and cost-effective responses to the brief. He established rapport and developed relationships quickly, making the whole project extremely enjoyable. We were guided through the process with a detailed project plan and structured schedule. His flexible approach meant revisions and evolution were always delivered on or before due date. Once the designs were finalised, he oversaw the training process, ensuring effective implementation and he was always available for extra support when needed. Working with Andy, I felt I was always in safe hands. His knowledge of the whole design and editorial process meant that we could try out different ideas without losing direction for the project. Andy always kept us focused on the main objective creating a well crafted, accessible magazine. The positive feedback my team has received proves that the objective was fully met.
