1 Pavilion Dance South West Head of Creative Programmes Job Role & Description This role is part of the leadership team, with strategic and creative development responsibilities. The post provides inspirational leadership for a small team in order to implement the organisation s creative strategy and programme. This will encompass the performance programme within the venue, artist support and development, participation and engagement and the creative development of the art form. Key to the role will be developing and designing creative projects, methods and ways of working through which these things can be achieved cohesively. The Head of Creative Programmes will work very closely with the Artistic Director to drive the creative intentions of Pavilion Dance South West forward and ensure real outcomes ensue for as many people as possible. Responsible to: Works closely alongside: Line manages: Artistic Director Regional Producer Head of Marketing and Development Venue Manager Programming and Producing Manager Youth and Education Coordinator Participation and Outreach Coordinator Salary range: 32,000-38,000 Terms : Hours: Base: Full time permanent contract. 2 Detailed key responsibilities Leadership and Management Develop and articulate the organisation s creative strategy alongside the Artistic Director Support the implementation of a cohesive and connected creative programme across the organisation and the region Share organisational management and advocacy responsibilities as part of the Leadership Team for Pavilion Dance South West, actively building positive relationships with key stakeholders, partners and investors Line manage staff effectively, providing inspiring leadership and a motivating and supportive environment Creative Programme Development Research, recommend and contribute to the shape of the performance programme Take responsibility for the delivery of the creative programme both in the venue and beyond, ensuring high quality practice throughout Identify co commissioning and co production opportunities, working to identify artists and productions who fit best with the organisation s artistic manifesto Lead on the youth, participation and outreach programmes and how they connect to the rest of the activity Dance Ecology Development Champion relationship development between artists/companies and venues/promoters and audiences/participants Lead on the implementation of the organisation s artist support and development programmes Work actively with the Marketing and Development team to build audiences and provide a programme that enables this Partnerships and Projects Extend and deepen the local cross sector partnerships so that the venue establishes strong links with a variety of groups Review and design youth dance provision at Pavilion Dance in association with the Youth & Education Co-ordinator Nurture the embryonic partnership with Arts University Bournemouth and launch the new dance degree with them in 2015 Lead on building pro active creative partnerships with key local organisations including the Bournemouth Arts By The Sea Festival, BH Live, Activate and Poole Lighthouse amongst others Develop and implement a regular series of platforms and showcases and prepare the organisation for delivering British Dance Edition in 2018 Work with the Regional Producer to create or seize opportunities to devise and deliver imaginative partnership projects that benefits the whole region and have national significance
3 Advocacy and Fund Development (working in close cooperation with the marketing and Development team) Take a pro active role in advocating for and representing the organisation locally, regionally and nationally Network actively and strategically to build the organisation s relationships and profile regionally, nationally and internationally Keep records and evaluate effectively enabling compelling advocacy materials to be developed and funders reports to be compiled Contribute to funding applications and persuasive, budgeted proposals to enable new project activity to happen Administration Manage budgets for relevant creative programmes and ensure delivery is compliant with all relevant funding conditions Take responsibility for contracting artists, practitioners and companies Recruit, induct and line manage staff Attend and present at board meetings and other stakeholder meetings when required Other Develop and maintain an exemplary knowledge of the professional dance sector and of contemporary practice both nationally and internationally Be aware of, and actively implement the organisation s policies with regard to, for example, Equal Opportunities, Child Protection and Diversity Attend staff & other relevant meetings and participate in training and other forms of staff development and be available to work at evenings, weekends and bank holidays when necessary Undertake any other duties commensurate with the post as directed by your line manager

5 Organisation Background and Context Background Dance South West was launched in April 2004 and was awarded National Dance Agency status in Until September 2010, its principal role was as the key strategic agency for the South-West of England, networking with a larger group of dance development agencies in the region enabling a joined-up approach to delivery through working with venues, artists and other partners. Current Context At that time, Dance South West worked from a serviced office in Bournemouth. In September 2010, thanks to capital investment of 3.29m by Bournemouth Borough Council, Dance South West was able to launch Pavilion Dance a new centre of excellence for dance. Based within the Pavilion Theatre on the seafront at Bournemouth, the centre consists of two dance studios and a well-equipped small-scale theatre (180 seats) and outdoor performing spaces. It has excellent backstage facilities and cinema quality screening and projection facilities. The developed organisation, Pavilion Dance South West, is committed to: being one of a small number of National Dance Houses across England, championing the art form and working collaboratively nationally and internationally to present and produce the highest quality dance being a regional and sub national hub for specialist dance services and expertise, supporting a range of partner organisations offer an exemplar, excellent programme of performance, participation and engagement locally Funding Arrangements Pavilion Dance South West secured National Portfolio funding from from Arts Council England and this has recently been renewed from The organisation has committed investment from Bournemouth Borough Council until 2016, renewable for further three year terms beyond this, and is considered to be a key cultural asset locally with regional and national significance and reach.
