1 NSPCC JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: DEPARTMENT: FUNCTION: Film and Animation Manager Brand marketing Communications DATE: October 2016 Context and background The NSPCC is leading the fight against child abuse in the UK and Channel Islands. We help children who ve been abused to rebuild their lives, we protect children at risk, and we find the best ways of preventing child abuse from ever happening. In order to carry out this work and help as many children as possible, it s important that our marketing and communications are the best in the business. Using sparkling copy, eye-popping design and robust strategy to engage the public and inspire support. The award-winning NSPCC Communications division is known for its talent, expertise and creativity in inspiring and challenging people to act on child abuse. We work collaboratively, both within the organisation and with partner agencies, to drive up support, deliver real change for children, and take us further in the fight for every childhood. We are committed to building positive staff and stakeholder engagement, a high public profile, strong reputation and world-class brand. We continue to set the agenda, influence opinion and find bold, innovative communications that create the changes needed to prevent child abuse from ever happening. The Creative Team includes film-makers, designers, copywriters and account managers who are collectively responsible for creating/executing brand and product identities, concepts, materials and campaigns across all channels and to all audiences. They have a wide range of skill sets covering creative consultancy, art direction, film production, strategic planning, project management, editorial and experience design, copywriting both on and offline. From initial commissioner brief to final film delivery, the film and animation team works with a hand-picked roster of agencies across a diverse spectrum of projects including mini doc, support resources, fundraising films, campaign assets and awareness drivers. The day to day role ranges from an Exec. Producer position, selling in ideas to commissioners, to Head of Creative, overseeing up to 20 film projects at once, to a more hands on Producer role on high profile projects. Specific responsibilities include: Strategic planning of film

2 within the wider NSPCC Communication s objectives; Budget management; Concept and script development; pre-production; Shoot attendance and post production management, ensuring films answer their brief and support the brand. A key responsibility will also be to work collaboratively with other senior managers and directors to promote synergies and the integration of activity to deliver fully integrated and effective Society wide content strategies. Job Purpose To play a key role in ensuring that all audio visual assets produced on behalf of the NSPCC is of an appropriate high standard, consistent with NSPCC s brand and key messages, and good value for money. To work effectively with other teams and departments in promoting communications work, policies, campaigns and brand guidelines. To have allocated responsibility for the team s budgetary performance and business results. To lead, manage and develop a team within Communications in line with corporate standards in order to meet business requirements. To find innovative and cost effective ways to reach new audiences through content led partnerships. Key Relationships - Internal Reports to Head of Creative Line manages a team. All internal commissioners of film and animation projects. Works closely with our in-house designers and writers and acts as a consult point for film and animation. Key Relationships External External roster of creative suppliers Liaises with external suppliers in respect of equipment and technology. Liaise with external production suppliers to field issues and assist with photoshoots. Main Responsibilities 1. To work with the Head of Creative in developing and delivering content strategies across the entire spectrum of communications. 2. To work with the Head of Creative to create and manage the annual budget for the team, enabling the department to plan its activity and services in line with the annual business plan and priorities. 3. To be accountable for meeting agreed key performance indicators and ensuring service level agreements are met (where applicable). 4. To be accountable for the development of effective internal and external customer relationships. 5. To exploit understanding by sharing knowledge, specialist expertise, and experience of communications with others as appropriate.

To recruit, train, develop and manage staff in line with NSPCC policies and practice including regular team meetings and regular personal development reviews, coaching and mentoring staff to achieve high performance, growth and personal development. 7. To participate in cross-functional projects as required supporting the department s objectives as a whole, and where appropriate taking the lead in such projects. 8. To keep up to date on best practice and developments within the charity sector generally and particularly changes to communications innovation, legislation and codes of practice. 9. To work with the Marketing and Production Manager to maintain and manage the NSPCC s digital asset management system and identify areas of development, efficiencies and improvements. 10.To work with the Head of Creative to oversee the production of our wider content requirements such as photography and illustration briefs. Responsibilities for all Communications Staff To actively participate in regular department and team meetings, contributing to strategy, discussions and decisions which will be beneficial to NSPCC s communications activities. To maintain an awareness of own and others Health and Safety and comply with the NSPCC s Health and Safety policy and procedures. To take personal responsibility for keeping up to date with NSPCC work to end cruelty to children, including securing updates on project and service developments and general NSPCC news. Key Result Areas: Contributes to the devising, delivering and evaluating of the development aspects of the Communications business plan including some budgetary elements. Operationally leading the Strategic content development team and ensures their specific output/input and delivery to the Communications business plan. Ensures that the brand is involved in the highest level content partnerships and that these are targeted to our most diverse audiences whilst complying with the NSPCC s brand guidelines. Assists on developing the brand strategy and associated policies issues for the Communications function.

Personal organisational skills Excellent organisational skills with the ability to organise and plan own work and the work of others to deliver objectives on time. 7. Creativity Ability to identify opportunities and to research and evaluate their viability in order to achieve desired Proven ability to demonstrate initiative and creativity to achieve desired KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE 8. Work-specific experience Substantial experience of success in contributing to an organisation s communications strategy. Requires excellent skills and understanding of all marketing/branding appropriate to the development and management of a major UK brand organisation. Management skills including people, performance, project and budget management. The highest level of negotiation and procedural skills for the development of contracts and service level agreements. Knowledge and understanding of all appropriate management and key externally related policies. 9. Work-related experience A good understanding of the NSPCC s brand guidelines. Detailed knowledge of tactical and operational processes for the running of

5 the Advertising and Communications Development team. 10. IT experience Experience of using Mac-based software packages, including word processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail and the internet.
