1 Vice President for INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT
2 OPPORTUNITY A Time and Region of Unprecedented Opportunity The University of Texas (UTPB) is at a key point of inflection in its history, positioned to play a key role in providing critical education, research, people and resources in a time of rapid industrial development in which global energy demand is projected to double over the next three decades. UTPB is seeking a Vice President for Institutional Advancement who brings the skill, innovation, energy and entrepreneurial spirit to leverage an environment where philanthropic opportunities are abundant. The Permian Basin is the largest oil producing region in the U.S.,. accounting for almost 30% of domestic production. Production in the U.S. has tripled over the past few years, following a period of more than three decades of decline, and current daily production is approximately the same as that of Kuwait or Brazil, the 9th and 10th largest oil producing countries in the world. Even at today's high levels of production, there is enough known supply to support another 75 years of extraction, and recent history suggests that new drilling techniques will be introduced to increase recoverable oil, and additional deposits will likely be identified. The Permian Basin is also a major location for wind and solar development. Simply stated, the Permian Basin has provided critical energy for the world for a century and is poised to continue to expand its role for decades to come. As the only major university in the Permian Basin region, UTPB is in a unique position to serve as the academic center of the energy industry and a primary catalyst in meeting these challenges -- training business leaders, engineers and related professionals, providing high-level research to support needed advancements, and working with industry leaders on implementation strategies. Through partnerships with local community colleges and industry leaders and leveraging the considerable resources of the University of Texas System and other research partners, UTPB can and should be the epicenter of this most important enterprise. The University enthusiastically embraces this task, and the selected Vice President for Institutional Advancement will be a key central figure in this important endeavor. With the arrival of a progressive, visionary new President, the approval and funding of new programs, and an extraordinary philanthropic base with unmatched resources located in the heart of America s energy industry, UTPB s Vice President for Institutional Advancement will be well positioned for unparalleled success.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board recognized UTPB for being the first public university in the state to implement AVID strategies at the post-secondary level. UTPB offers Texas' first Early College High School that serves remote school districts using a blended online and in person arrangement and with online dual credit courses available to schools throughout the state of Texas. UTPB s social work program is nationally accredited by the Council of Social Work Education, the College of Education is NCATE accredited and nationally recognized, and the Visual Arts Program is nationally accredited. UTPB s baccalaureate Nursing program - which opened in Fall is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Among the star attractions of the UTPB campus, the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center has been ranked as one of the top performing arts centers in the world and #1 in Texas for university-based centers in 2013, boasting an exterior design that combines local themes of geology and open sky and serving as a visual symbol of culture, education, achievement, and performance excellence. The campus also features a science complex with state-of-the-art computer and science labs, a model Charles A. Sorber Visual Arts Studio with gallery next door to an Olympic-sized pool and gymnasium, and a brand new Student Activities Center. UTPB has an active Student Activities program, and intramural sports are available. The university features some of the finest student housing options in the state. UTPB participates in NCAA D-II sports, fielding teams in men's and women's soccer, cross country, swimming, basketball, and tennis as well as men's baseball and football (added Fall 2016) and women's softball and volleyball.
