2 HIGHLIGHTS The second half of 2017 has been exciting and eventful for the Future-Moves Group. We reached various important milestones in our journey including the appointment of our first Executive Director and the launch of our Academy. We also welcomed our first hire under the Associate Development Programme (ADP). Mr Lee Kok Fatt s appointment as Executive Director FMG is proud to announce that Mr Lee Kok Fatt has been appointed Executive Director effective 1st January With his wealth of public sector experience, Kok Fatt has already made key contributions to the firm during his tenure as Senior Adviser. In his new role, he will undertake management responsibilities, and lead advisory and consulting projects. In December 2017, Kok Fatt released his new book: Singapore s Fiscal Strategies for Growth: A Journey of Self-Reliance. The book provides an insider fiscal view of Singapore s strategies based on Kok Fatt s experience at the Ministry of Finance and the Istana. Future-Moves Academy (FMA) FMA was developed as a physical manifestation of FMG s desire to be a training provider, think tank, and thought convener. With the launch of FMA in early 2018, our aspiration is for the Academy to serve as a venue of thought leadership and a state-of-the-art training facility for our training programmes. FMA s flagship programme will be our well received Data Skills Programme (DSP). FMA is located at 60 Paya Lebar Road, #05-01, Paya Lebar Square, Singapore , beside our headquarters. 2

3 OUTCOMES Notable key projects undertaken in the second half of 2017 At FMG, we strive to deliver outcomes for our clients. We understand the challenges countries and organisations face and take on projects aimed at challenging conventional thinking to help our clients stay ahead of the curve. Data Skills Programme (DSP) In 2018, we will be rolling out our flagship Data Skills Programme (DSP) to reflect the latest industry trends and to better cater to our clients needs. This iteration of DSP builds on the success of our previous Public Sector Data (PSD) Skills programme and Data Skills Training (DST) conducted over the past 2 years, during which, we trained more than 400 officers in practical data skills to enable them to handle, manage, analyse, and visualise data effectively for better policy decisions. The revamped DSP has been expanded to include the private sector, with new topics such as machine learning and predictive analytics added for the Advanced level. Supporting Rwanda s Transformation towards Vision 2050 In August 2017, FMG visited Rwanda to help shape Rwanda s strategic focus while identifying niche opportunities for economic transformation as part of our advisory services to the Rwanda Development Board (RDB). RDB is a government agency responsible for facilitating investment in Rwanda, with the mission of turning Rwanda into a global dynamic hub for business, investment and innovation represents the third year of our engagement with Rwanda and we are proud to continue being part of Rwanda s developmental journey. 3

4 PEOPLE Dr. Li joined the FMG team in Before joining FMG, Dr. Li worked at the Risk Management Institute and the Business School at the National university of Singapore as a teaching assistant. She also worked at the National University of Singapore as a research assistant. Dr. Li Bo Associate Principal, Data Analysis What do you do at FMG? I am the Associate Principal at FMG where I lead the firm s data analysis projects and provide close guidance to my team. We also support the consulting and executive education team on data-related issues and technical analysis. Can you tell us a bit more about FMG s Data Skills Programme? The DSP consists of two tracks: one for the public sector and one for the private sector. There are also two tiers of training offered: Fundamental and Advanced, with specialised topics such as machine learning techniques and predictive analytics covered at the Advanced level. For clients who require a more tailored approach, we are able to customise the curriculum further to meet the needs and requirements of individual organisations and/or industries. How do you see the utility of data analytics in solving reallife problems? People are becoming more aware of the positive impact of data analytics on generating insights for decision making. This is especially true in the era of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Internet-of-Things (IoT). A fundamental understanding of data analytics will become an essential skillset to advance in both the public and corporate spheres. How have you applied data analytics to help your clients? We were engaged by one of our clients to analyse and model the agency s data about elderly Singaporeans to generate meaningful insights for operational and policy improvements. In this project, we employed predictive analytics and developed a risk-profile model to anticipate the well-being risk of senior citizens for effective prioritisation of social resources. Where do you see FMG s data team in two years?? I see FMG s data team continuing to expand with the addition of talent in specialised fields of data analytics. The data team will also take on more challenging consulting projects to provide meaningful outcomes for our clients, even as we continue to help our clients build their data capabilities. 4

5 Don Siah Associate Consultant What do you do at FMG? As an associate consultant, my role in FMG is to provide support to the team in various projects. I undertake field research, fieldwork, write reports and perform data analysis as part of my role. What do you like about working at FMG? I really like the friendly and warm culture that we have at FMG. I feel welcome here and it is a comfortable place to begin my career. Throughout the stressful moments, I know that I can always count on my colleagues for support. What convinced you to join FMG? The promise of personal and professional development in ADP combined with the opportunity to make an impact convinced me that FMG was the place to be. What can future associates expect in this programme? Future associates can expect to be stretched and developed professionally. Further, there are abundant opportunities to make an impact! What advice do you have for future associates? Keep an open mind, be positive, and always do your best! Don joined the FMG team in August 2017 after graduating from the University of Durham in the United Kingdom with a First-Class Honours degree in Business and Management. What convinced you to join FMG? I was drawn by FMG s entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit. Despite being a budding firm, they have delivered positive impact on many challenging projects, by drawing on their team s diverse expertise astutely. What are you most looking forward to as you join FMG? I am looking forward to the steep learning curve that awaits me at FMG to contribute to their exciting work and to learn from the amazing team.
