9 Patient-level Costing Project 26 January :55 Aim Introduction The aim of this project was to implement Patient-Level Costing (PLC) at JHFT as one of the first wave of Trusts in the country. The Patient-level Costing Projects project was led by Finance but I was assigned as the lead analyst from Business Intelligence in order to provide data, advice and support and to develop reporting. Approach Some of the work I delivered as part of this project is provided below in support of my application for accreditation as an Analyst Level 2 (Informatics Skills Framework). Being an early adopter of PLC there were considerable gaps in knowledge at the start of this project. We decided to adopt an agile approach with weekly delivery cycles and short daily huddle meetings in order to ensure that the Finance Director was fully appraised of our progress and that the project was going to deliver the expected benefits on time and within budget. Results The project ran for 10 weeks between October and December Reflection The project was a great success and we all agreed that we had adopted the correct approach using agile / Scrum. The Finance Director was delighted with the outcome and used our work at a presentation he made to the HFMA conference. 10 Professional Development Page 10 Demand and Capacity Model 26 January :55 Aim Introduction Approach Results Reflection The aim of this project was to improve understanding of patient flow through A&E into the Acute Adult bed base. This project was initiated by the Chief Operating Officer following many months of failing to achieve the A&E 4 hour target. This workstream was managed though the Systems Resilience Group, meeting comprising senior representatives from the Trust, Local Authority and Commissioners and led to a series of multi-disciplinary half-day workshops. We found that there was a significant correlation between the mix of staff on duty in A&E with operational performance against the target. The COO was very pleased with the results and has initiated a data science project to investigate some of the findings. 12 References Page 12 Business Intelligence Specialist 08 January :20 Andy Burnham NHS Trust April Brian Lobe, Head of Business Intelligence Anna has made a fantastic contribution since joining the team in Her role has been as the lead analyst for the Acute Adult Care Division, working closely with the Divisional Director of Operations and her senior team and attending all of the Division's major operational meetings. In addition, Anna has an in-depth grasp of her Division's operational performance and briefs her DDO each morning on any significant issues that have arisen. I am delighted at the progress Anna has made with regard to her professional development. She really gets learning and development and has invested a lot of time and effort developing her technical and soft skills - it really shows! Also she has joined AphA and has presented examples of her excellent work at recent Senior Analysts Network events. Anna has also contributed to the development of other team members. She always finds time to help another analyst with an SQL query or providing advice on the most appropriate visualisation for a dashboard. She was a prominent member of the Excellence in Informatics team and made aa significant contribution to our recent Level 1 award. Anna's enthusiasm, proactivity, drive and professionalism will improve any organisation which employs her. Ed Honcho, COO Anna did a great piece of work for me on bed modelling which has really helped the Trust to understand and therefore manage the flow of patients admitted via A&E. Anna has a fantastic "can-do" attitude and is always prepared to go the extra mile in order to give me what I need. I am really pleased at the way she has developed since she first arrived at JHFS. When we are starting a new project she is one of the first names on the invitation list. I will miss her when she leaves however she is destined for great things and I wish her well in her future career.
