Restriction or closure of the SJB would significantly alter the distribution of traffic between the crossings and the primary objective is therefore to allow the key benefits of the MG project to be realised and maximised. The proposal is to widen the motorway and create an east-facing slip roads from the local highway network (A533/Whitehouse Expressway) at Murdishaw, would provide significant benefits by creating additional capacity on this section of the M56, which is known to suffer from congestion in both directions at peak times.
