A Drone is a unmanned aircraft, a RPAS (Remotely piloted aircraft system) Can be divided in three categories: o Hobby drones o Military drones (incl. used by Police, Fire-Arms) o Commercial drones (Transports/Logistics, by Grocery & B2C companies, Journalists, etc.) There are some: o Limitations («Lufta er for alle» - Yes/No) o Concerns/ Challenges What is DHL doing? o Examples: Parcels/ Warehouses/ Surveillance What about the future? Improve surveillance quality Additional value: Provide alerts to maintenance Training: Drone training provided by partner -> handed over to DSC staff. Control: First drone steered manually -> afterwards fully automated tour. Extensive use by DHL? o Will for sure be used and tests continue, but o Hardly distribution on a real broad scale (i.e. to individual B2C), but.. o To some remote areas with limited infrastructure o To some very dense areas in a fixed network o When speed is essential (which it sometime is) o Customers willingness to pay (i.e. cost/delivery) Limitations on pay loads (2 kg) and operational areas/traffic regulations, as well as insurance, health & safety and general jurisdictions. What about B2C portals (type; Amazone, AliBaba, Matternet, Wallmart/Google)? o The same concerns operational areas, limitations and cost per delivery DHL continues to Exploit and Explore new technologies to secure the highest service, best efficiency and highest quality in our extensive network.
