2 Port & Harbour Monitoring Systems Monitoring the inshore marine environment accurately and in real time is of critical importance to the safe management of ports and harbours. Triskel Marine s Port & Harbour Monitoring System (PHMS) is designed specifically for this task. The PHMS monitors key parameters at multiple sites and wirelessly reports all of the information back to one web based screen for the benefit of port operators. Installations may have sensors mounted either on buoys or existing fixed assets and include: Wind Speed and Direction Wind Gust Air Temperature Air Pressure Relative Humidity Within the same website reporting facility additional specialised data feeds can also be added as follows: Port vessels location and operational information Location of assets (e.g. navigational aids) Current Speed and Direction Water Temperature Tide Height and Surge Wave Height and Direction Water Quality Meteorological monitoring buoy Weather station data shown on website Buoy mounted systems are normally provided with our partner Planet Ocean Ltd who complete the integration of the sensors and electronics within their highly robust data buoys.

3 Real Time Data & Analysis Data from around the port can be sent directly to the internet for display and analysis on a public or private website as required. The following communications types are supported: Real time tidal height monitoring 3G WIFI Satellite (Iridium or Globalstar) VHF The regularity of data transmission can be configured from every 10 seconds to every 24 hours, and all you need to access the data is a computer or mobile device that is connected to the internet. Asset position monitoring web interface Dense Data Networks There is no limit to the number of monitoring stations that can be deployed simultaneously and each is individually addressable from your website. Buoy mounted stations are fitted with communications, GPS, battery monitoring and solar panels as standard. On-board data logging and additional navigation lights are also available as an option. Shore based stations may be either battery or mains power operated. Automatic Alerts Alerts are easily configured through the web interface and if triggered notifications are sent automatically to named users by or text message. Alerts can be set up on a variety of parameters, common examples are: Wind speed exceeds threshold Asset position moves outside of defined area Low battery level

4 Case Study: Falmouth Harbour Falmouth is the third largest natural harbour in the world and is an extremely busy port providing facilities for large commercial vessels, recreational craft and superyachts. It is operated by Falmouth Harbour Commissioners (FHC) with whom Triskel Marine Limited (TML) have worked closely to provide a broad range of instrumentation and monitoring to facilitate monitoring and management of the port. Falmouth Harbour Docks TML has installed a wide range of monitoring instrumentation around the harbour, all of which reports back to a dedicated website. This allows the port authorities to see all key information at a glance for both current and historical conditions. Dedicated website interface created for Falmouth Harbour

5 The range of monitoring instrumentation installed at Falmouth harbour is as follows: An autonomous weather station on the Black Rock navigational mark at the entrance to the harbour, measuring wind speed (average & gusts), wind direction, atmospheric pressure, temperature and local system battery voltage Tidal height measurement station mounted on Customs House quay A mobile data buoy with both a weather station and a current speed/direction sensor, typically positioned at a variety of locations in the inner harbour. A second mobile data buoy with both a current speed/direction sensor and a turbidity probe (for monitoring effects of dredging operations) also typically positioned at a variety of locations in the inner harbour. The Falmouth installation has been running for over 5 years and is a key tool for the harbour s management team. They are ideal for collecting long term trend data and for monitoring transient events such as dredging, construction or spills.
