3 Background on the South-African German Chamber of Commerce. The Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAGCC) invites Transnet National Port Authority (TNPA), Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), Transnet Freight Rails (TFR), the city of EThekwini Municipality, EThekwini Maritime Cluster, SANRAL, KZN DoT and the DTI to participate in a business delegation to the port and the city of Hamburg from August This visit will give the key stakeholders from these organisation an opportunity to see first-hand the ground operations of the SmartPort & city logistics of Hamburg, Germany and provide them the opportunity of transferring this knowledge and technology to the city and port of Durban. This mission would also give the delegates a chance to meet directly with the key stakeholders in Hamburg that were involved with the development and implementation of the SmartPort and city logistics operations. South African German Trade Relations The strong historical, political and economic links between Germany and South Africa have developed to such an extent that the relations between the two countries could be described as a strategic partnership. Germany is one of the biggest investors in the region with approximately 600 German companies present in South Africa. It is one of the most important trading partners of South Africa, ranking second in total trading volume. The trade balance is still very much in Germany s favour but in recent years there has been an improvement with an increase in South African exports to Germany. Port and Maritime Industry in Hamburg The port of Hamburg, situated right in the heart of the city, is Europe s second largest container port. Hamburg s 1.8 million residents share a close bond with their port. There is a very special ambience of this unique harbour metropolis, where guests find a multitude of shopping opportunities, sightseeing options and cultural offers that are attracting more visitors each year. Port management is about increasing efficiency of existing facilities and transport routes. 4 SmartPort Logistics The Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) strives to increase the efficiency of the port as an important link in the supply chain. SmartPort logistics is synonymous with smart traffic and trade flow solutions in the port of Hamburg, taking account of both economic and ecological aspects. A special focus of the project lies in infrastructure, traffic flows and trade flows. this, other players in the port need to assist in compiling the available information. Already existing IT platforms must be interlinked to create added value from this information and give logistics services providers, haulers and agents the opportunity to choose the most efficient mode of transport for their goods. Traffic Flows An intermodal Port Traffic Centre will interlink the various modes of transport and make traffic flows on water, rail and road efficient. The center will process all traffic information collected in the port of Hamburg and distribute it to users. Transport users and decision makers will then be able to read the relevant traffic information in real time, enabling them to choose the fastest and most favorable mode of transport to get their goods to their final destination. Infrastructure Establishing intelligent infrastructure is imperative to ensure smooth and efficient traffic flows and, ultimately, trade flows in the port of Hamburg. Intelligent information technology consists of elements such as Bluetooth, hotspots or WLAN, cloud, mobile end devices, Internet of Things and Big Data. Port of Hamburg Trade Flows Having at one s disposal the relevant information where and when required will ensure optimum trade flows. To achieve

Local transport to all events as stated on the programme (Group travel) Accompaniment of SAGCC staff member to all meetings.
