1 Erasmus+ Prgramme Key Actin 2: Cperatin fr innvatin and the exchange f gd practices - Capacity Building in the field f yuth - EAC/S11/13 JAMBO Yung Wmen Empwerment t Imprve Quality f Yuth Wrk and Vlunteering in EU and Partner Cuntries GENERAL DESCIPTION OF THE PROJECT DATES OF THE PROJECT: 1st f Octber th September 2015 DURATION: 12 mnths THEME: gender issue, wmen empwerment, yuth unemplyment GENERAL BACKGROUND: the internatinal cmmunity recgnizes gender equality and wmen s participatin as an indispensable factr fr achieving the Millennium Develpment Gals (MDGs) and building sustainable and fair scieties. Internatinal Vluntary Service (IVS) prjects all ver the wrld have been ffering a rare space where wmen frm different backgrunds and with different skills can actively participate in the life f the lcal and internatinal cmmunities, share their experiences, wrk alngside with men, take and accept leadership and gain legitimacy in different cultural cntexts. Having set an analysis f the shrt term vluntary service prjects run in the tw gegraphical areas, it has been nticed that in African cuntries there is a scarce wmen participatin in lcal and internatinal prjects, while in Eurpe, there is an verage wmen high rate participatin in these prjects, higher cmpared with the male ne. This analysis shws that the ptential f yung wmen participatin in IVS prjects is nt explited yet in African cuntries due t scial, ecnmical and cultural barriers. In Eurpe instead, althugh reaching up t 70% f the vlunteers exchanges in many cuntries there is a tendency t reprduce gender inequality within existing structures. Gender revealed t be a crss-cutting issue in particular in the frame f Africa- Eurpe exchanges: the reciprcal steretypes and prejudices n gender rles in African and EU scieties played an imprtant functin as underlined by different prjects we set up in recent years. With unemplyment still high as a result f the 2008 financial crisis yung peple and wmen are a particular risk categry. They enter the jb market ften with little experience, given that frmal educatin institutin des nt effectively prvide enugh preparatin. Yung wmen are the first victims f this crisis because f cultural and scial prejudices and it s fundamental t enhance their rle as key factr f develpment. PARTNERSHIP: LUNARIA-Italy, CONCORDIA-France, GRENZENLOS-Austria, KVDA-Kenya, UPA- Uganda, TYCEN-Tanzania TARGET: yung wmen, lcal yuth/scial wrkers, representatives f lcal and internatinal rganizatins and Ngs.

2 AGE: 18+ AIM: t empwer yuth scial wrkers (male and females) and prvide them with new tls, t enable them t favur the wmen participatin in shrt term lcal and internatinal vluntary service prjects implemented in the lcal cmmunities. Furthermre it s expected that participants, after the experience, will lead shrt term vluntary service prjects abut gender s t raise awareness in this field and will be able t manage the pssible gender cnflicts, that might appear. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: t spread awareness abut the imprtance f wmen participatin in vluntary service prjects, taking place in African cuntries; t empwer the lcal yuth wrkers in the invlved African cuntries, in rder t favur wmen participatin in lcal and internatinal vluntary service prjects; t develp capacity building prcesses fr lcal rganizatins in African cuntries in rder t cnceive new prjects t favur wmen participatin; t favur wmen participatin in shrt term, lcal and internatinal vluntary service prjects, develped and implemented in African cuntries; t exprt in Eurpe the results f the capacity building held in the African cuntries in rder t avid behaves based n gender inequality within existing vluntary service prjects; t exprt in Eurpe the results f the capacity building held in the African cuntries s that yuth wrkers and expertises f the Eurpean rganizatins can ensure a detailed preparatin fr their vlunteers willing t jin African cuntries; t develp a new tl kit, with a specific fcus n gender issues and wmen empwerments, fr Eurpean rganizatins t train their vlunteers during the nrth-suth training curses, befre they will jin shrt term vluntary service prjects and wrkcamp in African cuntries. PROJECT OUTCOMES: prmtin and activatin f a fairer and mre balanced participatin f male and female in the vluntary service prjects taking place in African cuntries; yuth wrkers empwerment in the invlved African cuntries; capacity building prcesses develpment fr lcal rganizatins in African cuntries and develpment f new prjects t favur wmen participatin; develpment f new appraches, amng the Eurpean rganizatins, with the scpe t avid behaves based n gender inequality within existing vluntary service prjects they run; empwerment f the infrmatin and develpment f the methdlgies that can be used by Eurpean rganizatins t train and prepare their vlunteers, befre they will jin vluntary service prjects in Africa; tl kit develpment, with a specific fcus n gender issues and wmen empwerment, that Eurpean rganizatins can use t train their vlunteers jining vluntary service prjects in African cuntries.

Participants will be asked t cllabrate in the daily maintenance tasks, such as cleaning the cmmn spaces and giving a hand in the kitchen (cleaning dishes, set the table, etc.). 5 AIM: t assess, capitalize and share the results f the prject specifically cncerning the wmen empwerment in African cuntries and t finalize the tl kit publicatin including the acknwledgement f the rle f IVS in prmting gender equality as well as the wrking methds used during trainings. The tlkit culd be afterwards used by EU and African rganizatins in implementing activities and trainings abut gender sensitivity in each cuntry and t prepare their vlunteers jining the IVS prjects there. Furthermre the tlkit culd be used by the sending rganizatins when they will run the predeparture training curse targeted t the vlunteers that will jin internatinal wrkcamps and medium and lng term prjects in east African cuntries, dedicating a specific fcus n gender issues. FINANCIAL CONDITIONS: FOR AFRICAN ORGANIZATIONS: travel cst fr ne facilitatr fr each rganizatin, calculated accrding t the Erasmus+ travel distance calculatr: fd and ldgement fr ne facilitatr fr each rganizatin: cvered at 100% by the prject; visa csts anticipated and afterwards refunded upn the presentatin f the invices. NOTE: we will refund all the partners after the end f the prject, as sn as we receive all the tickets and air barding passes A/R in riginal and as sn as we receive the secnd instalment frm the Executive Agency.
