1 PR & COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER Multi-award winning Wallace & Gromit s Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children s Hospital Charity, is seeking an outstanding individual to take up the newly created post of PR & Communications Officer. The Grand Appeal works on a local, regional and national level to raise funds and engage with a range of fundraisers and partners in support of our cause. The right candidate will provide confident, engaging and innovative communications which will enhance our brand, support our partnerships and help generate funds for the charity. We re looking for a pro-active, persuasive communicator with new ideas, initiative and a passion for both PR and social media, able to create compelling content to boost our reputation and fundraising. The ideal candidate will be able to distill complex information into concise and inspiring copy. The charity operates a number of brands including The Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children s Hospital Charity; The Cots for Tots Appeal, Bristol s Special Care Baby Unit Charity; Gromit Unleashed; Shaun in the City and Wallace & Gromit s Children s Charity. Title: Reporting to: Location: Terms: Salary: PR & Communications Officer Brand & Development Manager Central Bristol Permanent, full time Monday Friday (Due to the nature of the role, some out of hours working will be required) 25k depending on experience (More may be available for an exceptional candidate) Job Description The ideal candidate for this newly created role is likely to be educated to degree standard or equivalent and will be a persuasive and dynamic communicator. We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed team player with a passion for our cause and business objectives who will help to develop and deliver a range of communications across the following key disciplines: 1. Strategic - Maintaining a press/communications strategy and calendar of events, in collaboration with the fundraising, development and commercial teams, to meet our communications objectives and raise awareness of the charity.

Media Relations - Write and distribute high-quality, inspiring and creative copy for press releases, case studies, position statements and bespoke articles. - Maintain and execute the press strategy for the charity s brands and events during the year. - Identify new media opportunities in relevant key publications. - Organize and co-ordinate media attendance at events, visits, interview requests and act as the primary contact for journalists. - Evaluate, analyze and monitor media exposure for each of the charity s brands and events. - Maintain and build the reputation of the charity. - Plan/create multi-media communications materials. - Maintain library system for press cuttings, monitor cuttings.. - Maintain library system for images and consent forms. 3. Social Media - Day to day management of multiple social media accounts across all brands and channels. - Write and deliver high-quality, inspiring and creative copy for social media accounts. - Evaluate, analyze and monitor media exposure for each of the charity s brands.

Relationships - Maintain relationships with key media, journalists and influencers. - Act as a central point of contact with patients, families, fundraisers and hospital staff for press and marketing opportunities. - Create relationships with charity fundraisers/hospital patients, and guests to inform and influence press strategies. 5. Content - Writing content in a range of styles across marketing and communications for all printed and digital publications. - Writing creative copy for the commercial team. - Writing and co-coordinating of newsletters across all brands. - Uploading news stories to websites. Any other role commensurate with the operation of the charity as required. The ideal candidate will provide confident, engaging and innovative communications, be extremely well-organised, have outstanding people skills, and be self-motivated with the following essential experience: At least 2 years experience of managing press for a charity, organisation or business At least 2 years experience of managing social media channels for a charity, organisation or business including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram Experience in writing inspirational copy for a range of audiences including sourcing information, editing, proof reading Experience in planning, implementing and evaluating proactive media relations campaigns Experience in media management and working with journalists Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to write inspiring and persuasive copy for a variety of audiences The ability to influence and persuade effectively at all levels in the press Excellent networking and interpersonal skills Ability to distil complex points into concise, compelling and inspiring copy The ability to work on under your own initiative Good organisational skills including the ability to manage competing priorities
4 Desirable Experience Experience of working in the Bristol/South West area Experience working with sensitive information from patients and families Experience of developing and delivering social media strategies and content that complement our objectives to enhance our brand values Experience with a CMS system The Grand Appeal s HQ is in central Bristol, where the Press & Communications Officer will be based.
