1 Job Description Senior Support Worker Line management responsibility Accountable to Internal Relations External Relations Terms of contract Support Workers Team Leader / Service Manager Staff within Castle Rock Edinvar Group of Companies and the Places for People Group All relevant statutory and voluntary agencies Full / Part time Expectations of the Senior Support Worker role Application of their knowledge of social care practice to ensure the provision of a personalised, innovative, best value, high quality, inspiring and socially inclusive service; Delivery of support as agreed in support agreements for areas such as tenancy support, health needs, personal development, emotional issues and inclusion. Responsibilities of the Senior Support Worker Service Delivery Act as a keyworker for a number of service users and work with any of the team s service users as required; Participate in the team s referral, interviewing and selection procedures; Develop, review and renew Support Agreements with the service users ensuring the involvement of the service user or their advocates throughout the process; Provide mutually agreed personalised care and / or support to allow service users to live their lives to their full potential by promoting choice, independence and personal rights;
2 2 Lead and / or contribute to regular reviews of the service users support and personal care; Ensure all work undertaken is based on the assessment of the risk to you, service users and colleagues; Access educational, employment and recreational opportunities; Prompt or assist the service users with taking medication, following dosage instructions already prescribed and recording procedures; Undertake any other task identified as being necessary to fulfil contract requirements or the requirements of an individual support or care package; Recognise change as an integral part of the delivery of support and personal care and implement thoughtfully; Actively promote health awareness; Meet the aims and objectives of the Service; Participate in the on call service if required. Service user involvement and integration Support service users to play an active role in the overview, development, and evaluation of the Service and Places for People Scotland Care & Support; Facilitate service users lifestyle choices, rights and communication needs. Joint working Participate as a member of the Service Team by appropriately sharing information and attending meetings; Contribute to relevant meetings within the wider organisation as required; Facilitate service users families, friends, advocates and partner agencies influence on the way the personal care is delivered when it is in the best interests of the service user as defined by regular reviews.
3 3 Staff Management Take on the role of shift leader in the absence of the Team Leader or Service Manager. Provide appropriate development opportunities for Support Workers through the provision of supervision and appraisal. Diversity Represent and protect diversity through valuing everyone s contribution, by integrating diversity into all that you do and promoting it s core values. Self management Use own initiative to manage time effectively, keeping all work upto-date and prioritising to ensure that the most urgent is dealt with first; Create an image of cooperation, respect and goodwill in every aspect of your work; Recognise that you are accountable and responsible at all times in your role; Abide by the National Care Standards and Scottish Social Services Councils Code of Conduct in all work undertaken; Undertake Continual Professional Development through taking personal responsibility for your self development and to life long learning. This will be supported by line managers; Record information as required by National Care Standards, SSSC s Code of Practice, Places for People, Castle Rock Edinvar and PfPSC&S policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols; Adhere to Places for People, Castle Rock Edinvar, PfPSC&S and Service specific policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols; Be aware of current Health and Safety policies and take responsibility for your own safety, and that of others who may be affected by any act or omission on your part; Undertake such additional duties, as directed by your line manager or other staff if appropriate, as would reasonably be expected of someone at this grade. These duties may be undertaken at the post holder s principal place of work, or at any other relevant office;

PfPSC&S will support staff in line with the requirements of the job and the responsibilities of the organisation; All staff will attend statutorily required training and have access to training appropriate to the requirements of the role and their personal development; All staff will receive regular and responsive social care supervision from their line manager. Qualifications / experience Essential Recognised qualification in social care or related discipline *(see below if you don t * have the qualification) 2 years relevant community care experience Desirable Skills / knowledge Ability to prioritise own work Ability to work with external agencies in developing and implementing support packages Ability to work in a team Ability to undertake flexible working practice Ability to work in a person centred way Ability to assess and manage risk and ensure a safe environment Clear understanding of role and responsibilities Ability to act as shift leader Knowledge of keyworking system Knowledge of current legislative framework Knowledge of staff supervision Ability to produce clear and accurate written records Willingness to undertake training in relevant areas Ability to communicate effectively with people
5 5 Team Specific Requirements Car driver Ability to participate in sleepover rota Ability to participate in service user on call * Due to the Regulation of Care Act care workers at this level are required to be qualified to SVQ Level III standard or equivalent. If you do not have a recognised qualification in Social Care support will be given in order for you to achieve this; however it would be a requirement of your employment that you undertake this qualification.
