JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Mechanical Fitter/Plumber Grade: Operational Services Grade 4 Section: Facilities Management 1. Job Purpose To be responsible to the Mechanical Services Asset Care Manager, through the Asset care team Leaders, for the day to day maintenance and repair of services and equipment. 2. Duties and Responsibilities The maintenance, repair and replacement of primarily mechanical equipment, including but not limited to heating, plumbing, ventilation, control and boiler equipment. The general repair and maintenance work in connection with the mechanical and electrical services to the University buildings. Minor installation works in existing buildings. The ability to monitor, gather and input information on spreadsheets and report back. To be available for emergency call-out on a rota basis to be detailed by the Mechanical Services Asset Care Manager. To comply with Health and Safety Regulations ensuring equipment used (including personal tools) is maintained in a serviceable condition and that work procedures are safe and adhered to. To understand and implement Health and Safety policies and requirements for yourself and others, commensurate with your level of
2 responsibility within the Department to enable you to discharge you re other duties and responsibilities safely. To undertake any other type of maintenance work in connection with the functioning of the University s services as required by the Asset care team Leaders or, in his absence, the Mechanical Services Asset Care Manager. 3. Supervision. Left to work within established guidelines, subject to scrutiny by Asset Care Team Leaders. 4. Authority The employee has no authority to use vehicles or machinery for personal use. Responsibility for areas assigned to employee. 5. Functional Contacts All Academic and Residential Departments Line managers within the Facilities Management Department Visitors Students and Staff Contractors Facilities Management Health & Safety Officer 6. Standards of Performance To ensure satisfactory customer feedback is received. To ensure all equipment is properly maintained and cared for. To ensure personal objectives are being achieved. Ensure all works are carried out effectively and efficiently. 7. Person Attributes Team worker Flexible Problem solver Communicator 8. Special Conditions Corporate / Protective clothing and identity badges will be worn at all times by the employee during working hours.

To take ownership of self-development. Health & Safety Attendance at In-house basic H&S induction. In house Risk Assessment or Risk Management appreciation as appropriate. Education And Qualifications A recognised, suitable, indentured City & Guilds Qualification in plumbing, heating ventilation and/or Mechanical Apprenticeship. Minimum NVQ3 or equivalent. To possess a full clean driving licence. Other To be prepared to work additional hours when necessary. To be available for emergency call-out on a rota basis to be detailed by the Mechanical Services Asset Care Manager. 6 Conditions of Service These appointments will be on a full time, open ended contract. Salary will be on Operational Services Grade 4 ( 19,083-22,685 per annum) at a starting salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
