Management training is highly desirable. Ability to drive and access to the use of a car is essential as this role will involve travel throughout county Donegal. 2 Information Note for this position Name of the Project: Barnardos Initial Family Assessment Service, Donegal. Address/Location: Tusla offices in Letterkenny, Donegal Town and Buncrana Contact Details: Madge Deane, on About Barnardos Barnardos works with children whose well-being is under threat, through the provision of a range of services to children, their families and communities. Barnardos services are located in the heart of local communities. We provide 6 early intervention services, 20 Family Support projects operating in locations across the country and four Teen Parents programmes. We also provide a range of specialist programmes such as a Post Adoption Service, Barnardos Bereavement Counselling Service, Roots of Empathy (a school based programme delivered in the classroom) and Wizards of Words (a paired reading programme in which older volunteers read with children aged 7-9). All of our services work to improve the lives of children and their parents so that they can continue to thrive long after our work with them is completed. Initial Family Assessment (IFA) Service Barnardos has been contracted to provide an Initial Family Assessment service on behalf of Tusla Donegal. This service will operate across the Donegal region, working closely with Tusla staff in Letterkenny, Donegal town and Buncrana. This is an excellent opportunity to deliver services to meet the needs of children referred to Tusla in relation to whom there are concerns which indicate reasonable grounds for concern about a child in accordance with Children s First What will the Project Leader do? The Project Leader will manage and oversee the implementation of the Differential Response Model in Donegal, working in partnership with Tusla Social Work Department. The post holder will manage a team of four Project Workers and an Administration Worker. Two Project Workers will be based in Letterkenny, one based in Donegal Town and one based in Buncrana. 3 Project Leader Job Description Post: Location: Responsible to: Works with: Project Leader Letterkenny, Co. Donegal with travel throughout the county. Director of Services. Children, parents, families, Barnardos staff, Tusla social work staff, other statutory, voluntary and community partners Job Purpose To manage and oversee the implementation of the Differential Response Model in Donegal, working in partnership with Tusla Social Work Department. This model encompasses the undertaking of initial family assessments on child welfare made to the Tusla social work department and the undertaking of family support response work as appropriate. Core Job Requirements Management To provide practice management in relation initial family assessments undertaken on behalf of Tusla social work department, ensuring quality and best standards. To review and quality assure assessment reports. To provide practice management of short term family support interventions to families where appropriate, following initial assessment. These short-term interventions may include individual work and family work based in the home and in other settings. To work closely with the Tusla Principal Social Worker and Team Leader to ensure the effective implementation of DRM. To attend weekly Review, Evaluate and Direct (RED) team meetings with Tusla. To participate in interagency group consultation meetings on complex family referrals and assessments. To develop and maintain relationships with other agencies in Donegal as appropriate in the delivery of the work. To participate in any briefing and training on the new National Service Delivery Framework and assessment. To undertake the duties of Designated Person for the project under the Children First National Guidelines for the Protection and Welfare of Children.
4 To ensure that the protection and welfare of children is a primary concern of all staff and that, when child protection issues arise and the adherence to Barnardos policies and procedures. To prepare reports on the work as required and to maintain effective working relationships with Tusla and other partners as appropriate. To ensure all case, financial and administrative records and files are maintained to a high standard and case records are accessible to service users, seeking permission from third parties as appropriate. To ensure an up to date health and safety statement is accessible and available and is adhered to and any health and safety concerns are dealt with effectively and efficiently. To ensure the information for the database is gathered and inputed within the required time scale. To undertake direct practice as appropriate. Staff and Supervision To ensure all staff receive regular and professional supervision and appraisals. To ensure training needs are identified and addressed. Requirements of all Barnardos staff Commitment to the purpose of Barnardos and to work within the values, policies and procedures of the organisation and in the context of current legislation and regulations. To participate in regular supervision with your line manager and attend managers meetings as appropriate. To actively participate in team and staff meetings and service reviews/ evaluations and to contribute to the development of policy and practice with your area of work and within Barnardos as a whole. To report any area of concern to your line manager in a timely manner. To show reasonable flexibility in relation to hours of attendance to meet the needs of the work. Work during unsocial hours may be required. Have a flexible approach to the work in response to organisational change, development and review of best practice. Participate in and engage with a performance management programme. Identify training needs with your line manager and participate in training opportunities appropriate to the role. To be vigilant to any Health, Safety and Welfare risks in the workplace and bring any concerns to the attention of your line manager or local Health & Safety Officer. To be vigilant to any concerns regarding the protection and welfare of children and to bring them to the attention of the Barnardos Designated Person in a timely manner, in keeping with the Barnardos Child Protection policies.
