1 Community Facilitator Position: Community Facilitator Salary: 20,000 pro rata Hours: 30 hours p/w Days of work: Mondays, other days flexible Contract Type: 3 year, fixed-term Big Lottery Funded Location: Snowdrop Project Offices Parkhead House, Carver Street, Sheffield S1 4FS Reporting to: Local Coordinator Direct reports: 5-10 volunteer befrienders 1. Background information 1.1. Snowdrop Project is the first UK charity to provide long term, reintegration and community support to survivors of human trafficking. Our aims are to empower survivors of human trafficking to live lives no longer defined by their past, to reduce the risk of trafficking and re-trafficking, to create and implement models of best practice and to share this knowledge with other agencies and individuals on both a national and international scale We provide one to one support that is tailored to meet the holistic needs of the individual and carried out by trained staff and volunteer case workers and counsellors 1.3. We provide access to support networks either through signposting, partnership working or implementing snowdrop programmes 1.4. We help make a house a home through painting, decorating and sourcing basic furniture for permanent houses provided by the council 1.5. We provide training and consultation to case workers, befrienders and other organisations and charities in topics surrounding trafficking and reintegration support 1.6. We raise funds through events and sponsorships to support the work to support survivors of human trafficking 1.7. We inform national development through participation in national working groups and contributing or writing relevant research 2. Role Description This position has been funded for the next three years by the Big Lottery Women and Girls Fund. The role is designed to strengthen and run the befriender and renovation scheme; develop and implement community activities for service users and mobilise local fundraising strategies and initiatives.
2 3. Specific responsibilities 3.1. Snowdrop Team: To work with the team to coordinate excellent service delivery and support for volunteers and service users in line with the Mission, Vision and Values of the Snowdrop Project. This includes the following: To participate in any team meetings and brainstorming sessions as part of the Snowdrop Team Developing and Implementing Community Activities: This role will be responsible for working with volunteers and service users to develop and implement useful, fun and engaging community activities. This includes the following: Work with a team of staff, volunteers and service users to develop ideas for community activities for service users Organise and facilitate the implementation of activities Communicate regularly and well with caseworkers and service users about community activities and opportunities Increase and monitor service user participation in activities 3.3. Volunteer Management and Development: This role will take the lead on developing new volunteering opportunities within the Snowdrop Project, organise and facilitate activities for current volunteers and provide supervision for befrienders and other volunteers (except volunteer caseworkers). This includes the following: Work with staff and volunteers to develop and implement specific volunteer job roles and opportunities Delegate responsibilities to key volunteers Organising group supervision and social events 3.4. Coordinating and Developing the Befriender team: This role will work with a team to recruit and train volunteer befrienders, develop and improve the efficiency of the role, oversee group supervision sessions and maintain accurate and appropriate records. This includes the following: The main point of contact for volunteer befrienders Develop and improve the existing befriender scheme Work with a team to recruit and train new befrienders Communicate regularly with befrienders Maintain up to date records 3.5. Fundraising: This role will be responsible for fundraising a minimum of 6,000 additional funds in the first year of the project, organising and delivering inhouse fundraising initiatives as well as contributing to the overall fundraising strategy for the Project. This includes the following: Organising and coordinating in-house fundraisers Developing external fundraising opportunities and information packs for fundraisers Delegate responsibilities for fundraising activities to staff and volunteers
3 Contribute to the overall fundraising strategy including increasing external fundraising, and donor engagement Coordinating Renovation Team: This role will be responsible for coordinating and developing the Make a house a home renovation scheme, managing oneoff volunteers, coordination of renovations as and when renovations occur. This includes the following: Coordinate and developing the existing renovation scheme ( Make a house a home ) Developing and maintaining an up to date database to record renovation volunteers and skills Liaising with Senior Caseworkers regarding upcoming renovation projects to ensure effective service delivery Coordinating and communicating with one-off renovation volunteers Ensuring renovation supplies and DIY supplies are in place, in date and in good repair Coordinating the Service User Advisory Group: This role will be responsible for working with a team to organise and facilitate a group of former and current service users to give input and advice to the Board of Trustees. 4. Role Development The Snowdrop Project values investing in the continuing professional development of staff and volunteers. The direction this takes will depend on who is recruited. There is space within this role which we would like to explore and agree between the Community Facilitator and the Local Coordinator.
4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential Skills/Abilities Excellent written and oral communication skills Desirable Ability to drive a car and/or van with a current full drivers licence Experience Qualification Ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team Ability to delegate well Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks and complete them efficiently Good people management skills to motivate and inspire a small team Charity fundraising Co-ordinating and supervising volunteers including problem solving Working with vulnerable adults/bame community/asylum Seekers or Refugees Running activities within a given budget Experience designing and managing projects 5 GCSE s A-C (including English and Maths) Experience working with survivors of human trafficking Relevant degree A qualification and/or formal training in volunteer management and/or project management Knowledge IT Literacy, proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically MS Word and Excel Knowledge of grant schemes and donor strategies Knowledge of relevant community activities already being run in Sheffield Knowledge of the needs of survivors of trafficking
